Gang accused of killing to sell human fat

LIMA (Reuters) – Peruvian police said on Thursday they had broken up a gang that allegedly killed dozens of people and sold their fat to buyers who used it to make cosmetics.
Four Peruvians were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, murder and trafficking in human fat.
The group stored the fat it collected in used soda and water bottles, which police showed reporters.
"We have people detained who have declared and stated how they murdered people with the aim being to extract their fat in rudimentary labs and sell it," said Police Commander Angel Toldeo.

    Another note to self -

    Check all cosmetics to see if any are 'Made in Peru'.

    Oh, wait... I don't use cosmetics. Whew!

    Looks like it was sold in Europe so better check the labels for that too.

    One can always get a liposuction then donate the fat.

    The other article that I read for this indicated that the cosmetics in question actually advertised that they used human fat - apparently, it is supposed to have healing properties like rhino horn and frog eyebrows, or some shit.

    In any case, one would presume that people thought that the fat was being harvested from liposuction operations as opposed to murder. Well, one would hope. Otherwise, Europe might need an enema, and soon...
