Rarely, if ever, do i agree with anything the Left says, thinks, wants, or does. But in this case, i may have to make an exception since it appears the opposition to this new law is coming mainly from the Left. Let me also say, without reservation, that i am a very strong proponent of any law that truly protects children from harm and abuse of any kind. In fact, IMO, "truly draconian" methods should be used to punish those found guilty of such crimes, before they're executed. But what i'm not in favor of are laws that simply use children as an excuse, a tactic usually used by the Left, to get something else done, as this case appears to be doing. And, it's coming from the Republicans in the House!
On it's face, and as reported, this new law would seem to do away with what little privacy those of us who enjoy going online have left. I'm certainly no legal scholar, but i don't think the First Amendment would apply here, since they're not stopping you from "speaking" online, they're just recording and storing every word you type and every shred of personal info about you. That goes way beyond just being scary. Of course, there are those who would say that websites and advertisers already do this kind of stuff, and i don't disagree with that. Not with all the spam and junk i get. But to make it a law?............ What say you?
