This is a complete turn-around. Those of you who may have read "When Character was King" by Peggy Noonan, will remember how stunned Gorbachov was when he visited the Santa Barbara Ranch and discovered that Reagan lived in a house of a 'common' man.

It's been warm in Austin. Cooled off to 102 today but it's supposed to be hot again tomorrow. I fly west on Saturday - back to the mid-southern North Pacific - where cooler weather (than this) prevails.
