EPA Now Accepting Public Comment on Petition to Ban Lead in Ammunition and Fishing Tackle
Thursday, August 26, 2010

(CNSNews.com) – Environmental activists are pressing the Obama administration to ban the manufacture, processing and distribution lead shot, bullets, and fishing sinkers under the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, but hunting and Second Amendment groups say the EPA lacks the authority to do so, for starters.
A petition submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency on Aug. 3 says ammunition and tackle manufacturers are now marketing a wide variety of non-lead, nontoxic bullets, shotgun pellets and fishing tackle, which can and should be used instead of lead projectiles and weights.
“There is no technological or commercial reason why nontoxic ammunition and fishing tackle with comparable effectiveness should not be substituted for their lead counterparts,” the petition says.

"Twitch a finger and I'll fill you full of nontoxic lead counterparts."
Sheesh - that just doesn't do it for me... It looses its 'menace'.

As i said after the recent SCOTUS 2nd Amendment decisions, "the left will never stop trying"! They have no intention of letting anyone, including the SCOTUS, stop them from getting what they want. Can't outlaw guns? Do the next best thing and make ammo harder to get, (which they did) and get laws passed to make that ammo useless. And, as they usually do, they threw in fishing tackle as a diversion so no one can say they're simply out to get gun owners. In the end, the result for them is the same.
I'll give back my lead.

Time!
The EPA maintains a garage next door to us here in Manhattan on the East River. They are the biggest toxic dump imaginable. They park their personal cars in the garage and park all the mobile perfume factories all over the neighboring streets, in amblance parking only zones, in front of fire hydrants, and bus only zones.
Their attitude is "F*ck you all, I work for the city and I can park anywhere I want to"
I'm sure whatever "nontoxic lead counterparts" they decide to use will be very expensive and hard to come by and that is their ONLY motivation. They already won't let us use lead shot on waterfowl.
OK, I'll bite. And I'm being serious here. I object on the grounds that the gub'ment does NOT need anymore power.
But, if the shooter is using FMJ anyway, why does the shooter care what the core is? Weight, cost, ballistic characteristics?
I'm a gun owner, not a bullet expert.
Steve -
One reason is that lead bullets deform on impact which has two benefits - the round is more lethal, and its forward rate of travel stops. Also, lead won't pierce steel - whereas many non-lead rounds are considered armor piercing and so are already banned.
And as See-Dash-Bug points out - lead is cheap. Alternatives aren't.
It's all about control.
I hadn't considered the armor piercing aspect. Sounds like a "growth" market, looking for a replacement for lead. I remember reading about some kind of stainless steel a few years ago that had the structure of a sponge. At the time materials engineers were looking for a use.
I wonder if this could be one.
Could be a new use for plutonium
You can get solid brass rounds now - but they don't have the stopping power of lead. They're intended for target practice.
Here's to the SAT's
lead is to plutonium as cheese is to: a- camera b- the French c- milk or d- a cow.
I'd like to buy a vowel
Waaaaait a minute...What kind of cheese?
If it's Livarot, the correct answer is B, C, & D, and French Milk Cow would be a Charolais.
OK, given this idiot move, AND the possibility of a coming huge depression, AND because I trust not the idiots in charge, I'm thinking of becoming a reloader. I'm looking for info, intel, eqpt and tips.
WE can do it here, or in e-mail. Personally, I think posting here, gives the info to all who want it.
OT,
anybody watching Glenn Beck on C--Span?
Yes.
and I
have a feeling it's is gonna scare the shit outta the democrats.
Though they DO have plenty to spare... just squeeze Reids head.
