"...and IF we pass the Porkulus Package, unemployment won't go above 7%? We promise, no take backs!!"
.
So much for THAT prediction, huh?
.
The American economy added 290,000 jobs in April, which was much better than expected despite temporary hiring for the 2010 U.S. Census. Excluding Census workers, 224,000 nonfarm jobs were created, with the unemployment rate edging up to 9.9% from 9.7%, the Labor Department reported Friday.
.
Now I'll openly admit to being a little slow with math. But IF you have an INCREASE of the OVERALL rate, did you really ADD jobs, or did you in fact LOSE jobs? Seems to me, you've lost jobs!

Obviously, govt. numbers can be (and often are) used to anesthetize people.
From Common Sense 101:
The longer you pay people NOT to work, the longer they won't!
Paying people for 99 weeks is insane. It will, for many of them, simply remove any incentive they might have for finding a job. Any job. It's just another "govt. freebee", and that's exactly how many people see it.
You don't suppose the temp hires for census work made up a major portion of those "new jobs" do you?
At present, Article 67 of Mexico’s Population Law says, “Authorities, whether federal, state or municipal … are (required to demand) that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country, before attending to any issues.”
Yeah, but Pancho, we're not as mean as the Mexican Gub'ment. Or as smart either!
