On Haiti

.
I'm not going all touchy feely here, but listen up, and see if there are holes in my reasoning.
.
Since the Coup in Haiti in 2004, and the U.N. going in there to re-establish order, over 9 BILLION, with a "B", dollars that have been dumped into the country.

Here's how the numbers break out, using my manually operated common sense, an old calculator and Al Gore's interweb thingy for fact finding.

There are about 9 million people in Haita TODAY, there were about 7.5 million when the coup happened. If you divide that $9B, into today's population, it comes to around $1k, per person in the country in NEW foreign aid since the coup. OK, if you divide that money by the 6 years, roughly, it doesn't amount to much per capita. Only $166 per year, per capita.

BUT, and this is a huge BUT...

The Average Yearly Income Per Capita in Haiti, is $270 NOW. Adding that $166 to that is a 61% raise in income. But foreign aid NEVER goes to the people who need it. New money, invariably, winds up in the hands of those who already have much, especially in places like Haiti. But imagine what it would be like if they had just handed that money to the people, for the last 6 years.

Who knows, maybe the economy would have taken off, with the people able to buy stupid stuff, like food or clothes or housing. Sad but true. And oddly, in that same vein, imagine what OUR economy would be like right now IF, the Stimulus money last year had been handed to us, instead of to the banks, mortgage companies and car companies.

It was Bush's fault

Like everyone else, i've been forced to watch the goings on in Haiti because of the MSM's obsession with disasters. While watching, some questions came to mind;

1) How is it that Haiti looks pretty much the same "after" the quake, as it did "before" the quake? Cities made of cardboard shacks, and people just hanging around waiting for someone to give them food, water, money, clothes, etc.

2) Why is Haiti the poorest nation in the world? What do these people do all day other than waiting for the next welfare check from us. If they've been busy building their country's infrastructure and economy, i apparently missed it.

And now, we'll do what we always do. We'll send planeloads and boatloads of supplies and money. And in 6 months, these people will hate us for sending flat-screen TV's that weren't big enough, or the wrong color basketball shoes.

Could it be that Mother Nature is smarter than we are?

OK, so Anon WORKS for the U.N., now we know.

Think of Haiti as a place in your home that needed to be cleaned out and that served a better purpose being left empty. Then just think of mother nature as the cleaning service.

Note:

Obama responded to this immediately which is all very fine. But how quickly did he respond to our recent disasters and emergencies?

"Grammie" or whatever name he wants to call me!! said...

Of course Maobama responded quickly. Poor, destitute people in Haiti deserve more compassion and quicker attention than bitter Americans clinging to their guns and religion.

At the time of the hatian slave revolt (around 1800) Haiti was the richest country in the world (per capita).

They now have the freedom to be useless.

If we were all black he would have done the same for us.

The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."
Genesis 18:26

Must not have been many righteous people in Port-au-Prince.

I'm just saying...

Here's something strange. Since Haiti is on a not so large island which it shares with the Dominican Republic, why have we not heard a single word about the DR? It's been said that all the TV news people have been staying there in very comfortable accommodations.

I'm not at all surprised to see commiewood "actor" Danny Glover, a self-described communist, blame the earthquake on "climate change" and the failures at Copenhagen.

Any bets as to how this "temporary" situation will end?

WASHINGTON (AP) 1/16/10

-The Obama administration says it will allow Haitians already in the U.S. illegally to remain because of this week's catastrophic earthquake.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano granted the temporary protected status on Friday.

The protection is only available to Haitians already in the country as of last Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Napolitano temporarily halted deportations of Haitians, even those already in detention.

If you think David Copperfield can make things disappear, watch these folks. The 18 months will turn into forever. And guess who will be paying the bills?

What I would like to know is where the hell is the rest of the world when the USA needs help. We are always sending help to everyone else but I don't remember seeing any other countries in the gulf after Katrina. Our money always seems welcome but We never are. I think we should close the BANK for a while and I bet that the good ole USA starts looking pretty good around the world before long. I have been unemployed for a while now where the hell is my aid. Can anybody help me get to Haiti quickly? Hi Steveo.
