For this amount of $$$, they could get into PRIVATE Schools...

This principal runs a school of “no.”

Students at PS 106 in Far Rockaway, Queens, have gotten no math or reading and writing books for the rigorous Common Core curriculum, whistleblowers say.

The 234 kids get no gym or art classes. Instead, they watch movies every day.

“The kids have seen more movies than Siskel and Ebert,” a source said.

The school nurse has no office equipped with a sink, refrigerator or cot.

The library is a mess: “Nothing’s in order,” said a source. “It’s a junk room.”

No substitutes are hired when a teacher is absent — students are divvied up among other classes.

A classroom that includes learning-disabled kids doesn’t have the required special-ed co-teacher.

About 40 kindergartners have no room in the three-story brick building. They sit all day in dilapidated trailers that reek of “animal urine,” a parent said; rats and squirrels noisily scamper in the walls and ceiling.

PS 106 is allocated $2.9 million to serve a low-income population with 98 percent of its students eligible for free lunches. As a Title 1 school, it gets extra federal funds, but community members say they’ve never seen a budget tracking the income and spending..

In case you don't have your calculator ready, the Federal Funds ALONE come to almost $13K per student.  Even in NYC that could pay for private schooling that MEANS something.  And here's a question, WHERE is Al Sharpton on THIS?!

NYC pays $20K per student, so that school gets $33K per student.  That should get them a very decent education, EVEN in NYC.  So, where are the race baiters?  Where's Jesse, where's Al, why ain't Oprah looking into dis may'n?!!?  Dey be needin' he'p down dere may'n!!!

There must not be enough white, non-Lib handwringers on the NYC School Board for Al et al, to get involved.  They get ZERO Race Points for saying BLACK and Minority School Board Members mistreated minority kids!

So, in between the 16 weeks per year I work at my "real" job, I have started substiuting for the county school district. I would have never believed it, but I would much rather teach 12-14 year olds than high school students. Believe it or not, I don't get bored and the kids actually want to learn something above the 1st grade level.

That being said, I have learned that a lot of times it really is the teachers that are the problem in our education system. it isn't that they don't know how to teach the subject, it is that they don't know how to teach children. With my two graduate degrees, I make minimum wage substituting and have a great time doing it. I am absolutely amazed at how many teachers don't know how to control their classroom. What is even more interesting to me is that I have had these kids in other classes, and never have problems with them. The kids are not dumb, but they do have to be given standards, and then held to them.

In line with this post, It is proven time and again that no matter how much money you throw at the education system, you have to have quality teachers who actually want to teach, not just collect a pay check.
When we got fed up with the CA indoctrination system, we started homeschooling....part time....meaning that my wife & I could only teach part time & the kids had to govern themselves. Every one of my kids (at that time) graduated a year early, or two, and went on to college with their GED scores showing that they were in the top 96%.

Education is one of the few things that Europe is getting right. WE need a lot more charter schools and vocational schools. I am willing to bet a year's education budget that if we do that we will reduce the dropout rate, increase the graduation rate, and kids will actually start liking school again.

So long as there is money to be made by keeping a population sample uneducated and in poverty, we can only expect more of the same.

In the case of this NYC school, the kids don't have books or food for lunch, but the principle does have a full length mink coat to keep her black ass warm, and a new BMW to visit the school every now and then. And the union will fight to the death to protect her. I love it.

alan,
way back in the early 90's when I got sick the first time, I was out of work for about 6 months. The first job I tried, because it was P/T, was driving a school bus.

I actually got three bus loads of 'bad kids' that had run rough shod over the previous drivers. Not me bruddah, I ain't having it!

I had three rules,

Don't dis each other.

Don't dis the bus driver.

No elephant hunting!

I had trouble a couple of times, but I handled it onboard by moving people, stopping the bus until people REALIZED we were stopped, etc. The kids weren't 'bad', but the drivers wouldn't control them.

Over the years, I've found the same thing you said. Kids want to learn, but teachers don't teach and no one controls their classrooms.

Spider,
when I was telling my better half about this story, and without prompting from me, she ASKED if the principal was black.

I guess that makes her, me and you racists?

Yes it does, and speaking for myself, i'm PROUD of it!

I would have simply asked:

"Just how black IS that principle".

Can't BE no white principle.

Poots....
tell me about it. that early december cold spell that we had.

Holy Schneiki...There is something fundamentally wrong with 6 inches of snow in the top of your palm trees!!! When we lived in Flagstaff a few years ago, I actually like looking out the window and watching my kids shovel the snow off of the 75 foot driveway. It kept them busy all day 'cause it was falling as fast as they could shovel...
But here in the Virgin River valley, snow shouldn't last past noon, and that is only on the 2 or 3 days per year that it falls!!!

We had a whoppin' 1/2 inch last night. I think more would have stayed on the ground, but it was 63 at 2PM, that report by way of my Goat Barn Weather Network. So even though it snowed like a MFer for 2 or 3 hours, the ground was too warm for it to last.

Having said that about yesterday, HOWEVER, this AM, the water bucket in the goat paddock, is a 3.5 gallon ICE CUBE, as our high today has been MET, it's 28 at noon. Supposed to be around 17F tonight, 39 tomorrow, then back below freezing for 36 hours.

I'm loving it, I keep going out on the front porch, just enjoying the 'snap' in the air. If there is ONE thing I dislike [read that as fucking hate...] about this area, it's the lack of seasons and lack of winter cold. I'm betting most people think I'm nuts, but I like it cool or cold.

ANYWAY, in concert with frozen goat water, the lock on the shop is frozen shut, so the kids couldn't get in to get to the goat feed, and hay, to feed them. Luckily, my sweet D-i-L fixed it all and took care of them.

I'd go down there myself,
but currently I'm laid up, again, my back and hip are killing me. Talked to my Primary Doc yesterday, ordering a hospital bed and lift recliner this week. F'ed Up, but true!

Oh, How the Mighty have Fallen!
