The concept itself is so stupid and assumptive that it defies description. But there is one line in this story that is so typically left coast, liberal, anti-American, that I had to make this quick post.
.
California outlaws large, power-hungry TVs
.
Find said idiot line, and win a free big screen TV. And don't skip the comments section. More rumblings of revolt.

How much energy do those teleprompters consume?
"All told, the new rules are expected to save 6,515 Gigawatt-hours annually in the state, save the state $8.7 billion in costs for additional power plants"
Since when did the state build power plants? What will they regulate next, my Blendtec (will it blend)? Maybe we need an Electronics Reform Bill? Once again, CA government morons show why this state is going down the crapper. Hey Governator, why don't you keep your nose out of my business and take care of yours. Need to save electricity, why not shut off every other street light for a start.
Ahh, another great idea from the mindless liberals who run Mexifornia. Here's a better idea. Let them build a huge turbine powered by the millions of illegals they welcome to their state every year. That should be enough to power the whole country.
Here's another idea. Put the state of Mexifornia on Ebay. Let people around the world bid on it. But there's one condition. The winner "must" take the people with it. Maybe we'll finally get something worth while from that state, and at the same time, we can be rid of them. Now that would be a win/win for the rest of us.

Looks like everyone is gonna want one:

Here it is,

Those who will be heavily affected are manufacturers who make televisions that draw more than THEIR FAIR SHARE of juice.

Who says there is ANY fair share of a GD thing in ANY state? Fair share? I want a FAIR SHARE of Streisand's beach view. I want a FAIR SHARE of Sean Penn's money. I want a FAIR SHARE of Jay Leno's cars.

And like anon said, since when did the STATE ever build a power plant? But I've got the answer to that one, because I used to work in CA power generation.
The state will have to build the new ones. With all the tree huggers and enviro-Nazis out there, you can't build or run anymore generation capacity.
Actually, if the power generators in those surrounding states were smart, they'd be building capacity there, and selling it to the California Grid.
And trust me, this current problem was a topic when I worked out there in 1991 and 1992. So the companies knew the problem was coming 20 years ago. How come the "state" is NOW surprised?
One last tidbit.
Anyone thought to check power consumption on a 2009, 42" LCD HDTV vs 1979 27" Color TUBE TV?
Think about that one, beings they're talking TV power usage.
Me thinks everyone is going to buy a 58" set after this rule goes into effect.
"One additional point of note: The new rules currently don't apply to very large TVs, those of 1,400 square inches or larger (roughly a 58" set), although rules are likely to be enacted against these ultra-large sets in the second phase of this legislation."
That would answer the question I had about all the pro teams in CA's jumbo-trons.
"California outlaws large, power-hungry TVs"
How about we outlaw large, power-hungry politicians?
So they're gonna come into my home and inspect my TV? No problem, but how are they gonna get out?
Carried out in a box
The line that hit Schtevo, hit me. I understand being CONSERVATIVE or frugal when you can, or as a direction for any process, but WOW ...
I think the reason this kind of garbage pops up and persists, is that most sheeple think that the govmnt is SUPPOSED to do these kind of things. I work woth a wacko that wants his personal info available to everyone possible, so his identity can't be stolen.
One-point-twenty-one jiggawatts!
