(Yahoo News) These days, Lee Beaumont is perfectly happy to get a call
from a telemarketer. In fact, he's the one making a profit from the
unsolicited sales calls. The BBC reports that Beaumont became so sick of
getting calls from marketing companies that he changed his phone number
settings so that incoming callers have to pay him a small fee to
connect.
Since changing his number in November 2011,
Beaumont says he's made about 300 pounds ($464) from the calls. Using a
service called PhonepayPlus, Beaumont charges incoming callers 10 pence
to connect and additional charges for the longer he stays on the line.
"Because I'm getting annoyed with PPI phone calls
when I'm trying to watch Coronation Street so I'd rather make 10p a
minute," he told the BBC. "I want cold calls."
Beaumont receives 70 percent of the take from
such calls, adding that he now goes out of his way to keep telemarketers
on the line for longer periods of time. Beaumont says he fully discloses the charges when
companies ask for his number. The "0871" line does raise some eyebrows
with company representatives, but many still elect to pay for the chance
to make a sale. PhonepayPlus, the company Beaumont enlisted for
his pay-to-call numbers, said it discourages individuals from setting up
similar lines. "Premium rate numbers are not designed to be used in
this way and we would strongly discourage any listeners from adopting
this idea, as they will be liable under our code for any breaches and
subsequent fines that result," the company told the BBC.
For his part, Beaumont said he keeps a separate, private number for personal calls.
"I don't use my normal Leeds number for anyone but my friends and family," he told the BBC.
There are various options for setting up similar
pay lines in the U.S., although most are targeted to individuals setting
up a small business for ventures such as psychic lines or adult chats.
Skype used to offer a service called Skype Prime, which allowed it to
charge for incoming calls but that service has since been discontinued.
The Federal Communications Commission has
established guidelines regarding "900" numbers in the U.S., but those
rules seem to provide wiggle room for anyone who wants to follow
Beaumont's lead as long as they are doing so transparently...

MY Tax Dollars at work, educating the youth of NC...and the World at Large
Many people know I am NOT a fan of current residential State. For lack of any other reason, the place is schizophrenic. WHY would generally decent, God fearing, Christian, Moderates CONTINUALLY vote for ever more Liberal Democrats, right up to the point where our last Governor was metaphorically under Obama's desk, holding his 'cigar', and some of her Cabinet now work in D.C. for that idiot.
Our greatest gift to the world at large however, and by 'our' I include myself ONLY as a NC Taxpayer, our greatest gift is the greater UNC University System. A group of 17 colleges and universities guaranteeing that Karl Marx is alive and well, and living in the hearts of graduates and attendees of the UNC System. Being a good communist institution, they also seek to undermine anything wholesome or clean.
There are damned few Conservative professors in America, fewer still in the UNC schools. So few in fact, that one of them was recently called out for BEING a Conservative, and for speaking his mind on Conservative topics, and for saying Marriage should be for ONE man and ONE woman. One person went so far as to call him "an embarrassment to higher education in America".
Dr. Adams answer to this tick turd is a classic.
.
Dear Edward:
I want to take the time to thank you for writing and telling me that I should be fired from my position as a tenured professor because I am “the biggest embarrassment to higher education in America.” I also want to thank you for responding when I asked you exactly how you arrived at that conclusion. Your response, “because you insist that marriage requires one man and one woman,” was both helpful and concise.
While I respect your right to conclude that I am the biggest embarrassment to higher education in America, I think you’re wrong. In fact, I don’t even think I’m the biggest embarrassment to higher education in the state of North Carolina. But since you’re a liberal and you support “choice” – provided we’re talking about dismembering children and not school vouchers for those who weren’t dismembered – I want to give you some options. In fact, I’m going to describe the antics of ten professors, official campus groups, and invited campus speakers in North Carolina and let you decide which constitutes the biggest embarrassment to higher education.
1. In the early spring semester of 2013, a women’s studies professor and a psychology professor at Western Carolina University co-sponsored a panel on bondage and S&M. The purpose of the panel was to teach college students how to inflict pain on themselves and others for sexual pleasure. When you called me the biggest embarrassment in higher education, you must not have known about their bondage panel. Maybe you were tied up that evening and couldn’t make it.
2. At UNC Chapel Hill, there is a feminist professor who believes that women can lead happy lives without men. That’s nothing new. But what’s different is that she thinks women can form lifelong domestic partnerships with dogs and that those relationships will actually be fulfilling enough to replace marital relationships with men. I can’t make this stuff up, Ed. I don’t drop acid. Well, at least not since the late 1980s. But I promise this story is real and not an LSD flashback.
3. At Duke University, feminists hired a “sex worker” (read: prostitute) to speak as part of an event called the Sex Workers Art Show. After his speech, the male prostitute pulled down his pants, got down on his knees, and inserted a burning sparkler into his rectum. While it burned, he sang a verse of “the Star Spangled Banner.” I believe that stripping incident was almost as embarrassing as the other one involving the Duke Lacrosse team.
There are 7 more examples, each one, more lurid than the last, go read them, it's quite enlightening. And just for the record, I hate here just a liiiitle more here now. Texas looks better allllll the time.

So, What Do You Think?
We know that no treaty is applicable unless first ratified by congress. We also know how many times the Marxist-in-Chief has ignored and bypassed congress. And we should know that a ratified treaty has more force in law that a Constitutional amendment...
From this global perspective, the UN's International Small Arms Control Standard module then directs, in excruciating detail, the manner in which national governments should restrict access to firearms and ammunition:
Restricting civilian possession of firearms only to those "at the lowest risk of misusing them."
Limiting sales and other transfers of firearms only to commercial transactions at licensed "sales premises" (in other words, no transfers at gun shows).
Only persons licensed and periodically relicensed by the national government could possess firearms.
All firearms must be registered with the national government.
All persons wishing to possess a firearm must pass a rigorous exam administered by the national government.
All firearms must be stored in locked containers separate from ammunition, and "bolted to a heavy or immovable object."
Only a predetermined number of firearms and rounds of ammunition may be possessed by a "properly" licensed civilian.
Magazine capacity is limited to 10 rounds.
Possession of a firearm may only occur after a seven-day waiting period.
No civilian could own or possess a firearm for self-defense unless he first demonstrates a "clear and convincing" need.
Individuals licensed to own firearms "are subject to periodic and random inspections of their homes or businesses".
In order to be granted a license to possess a firearm, an individual must secure recommendations from "responsible members of society," attesting to their "suitability to possess a small arm."

Robert Anson Heinlein is Right, yet again
If it were NOT for Robert A. Heinlein, I'd be yet another slack jawed yokel, non-reading, sheet rock hanging or wrench turning, know nothing idgit! But because a Librarian stuck a copy of "Red Planet" in my hand, thus lighting the fire of READING in me, I became the reasonably well read, autodidact [look it up!] that I am.
I certainly AM one of Heinlein's Kids.
I've read everything Heinlein ever wrote. In many of his adult novels he wrote about the concept of 'term marriages', some short term, some long term. It was designed to be a renewable marriage contract that would allow people to move on, if they so desired. Well, kids, it's no longer the pervue of fiction.
A high divorce rate means it's time to try 'wedleases'
We all know that far too many marriages end in divorce, yet this institution does not adapt. Indeed, most Americans today want to expand conventional marriage to include same-sex couples.
So why is there no effort to improve the legal structure of marriage, when it shows itself to be deficient?
Marriage is a legal partnership that lasts a lifetime — one lifetime to be exact, that of the first of the spouses to die. Generally speaking, that is a long time for any partnership. People, circumstances and all sorts of other things change. The compatibility of any two people over decades may decline with these changes to the point of extinction.
In real estate, one may own a life estate in a piece of property. This is comparable to the term of a marriage — a lifetime. And in real estate, one may hold possession of property for shorter terms through a lease.
Why don't we borrow from real estate and create a marital lease? Instead of wedlock, a "wedlease."
Here's how a marital lease could work: Two people commit themselves to marriage for a period of years — one year, five years, 10 years, whatever term suits them. The marital lease could be renewed at the end of the term however many times a couple likes. It could end up lasting a lifetime if the relationship is good and worth continuing. But if the relationship is bad, the couple could go their separate ways at the end of the term. The messiness of divorce is avoided, and the end can be as simple as vacating a rental unit.
A marital lease could describe the property of the spouses in detail, so separate ownership is clear. If a couple wishes to buy something together, or share ownership, they can keep a schedule of these items and decide as they go along how these would be disposed of in the event of a partner's death or if they do not renew their wedlease. Landlords and tenants have proved the effectiveness of making clear their separate property and its disposition at the end of property leases.
If the couple has a child, there could be an option to have the lease automatically continue until the child reaches the age of majority. Of course, relationships change with family additions, and an extended term may not be feasible. But considering the number of children born out of wedlock these days, would it not be better for parents to at least commit to a wedlease, even if it doesn't last a lifetime?
Heinlein's systems of marriage ALWAYS provided for the CHILDREN first and foremost. A system, might I add, that doesn't always exist in our country at present. Many of the people I know who get divorced are MUCH more worried about the $$$ than they are the kids!
I have to tell you, given the ME, ME, ME attitude, 'Term Marriages' are the way to go. The caveat being, ANYONE who is in a 'Term Marriage', should be barred from having children.

no systematic evidence
So the White crib is saying: "no systematic evidence that the Affordable Care Act is having an adverse impact on job growth or the number of hours employees are working"

so can someone please tell me why my wife just got a letter in the mail stating that if she exceeds 29.5 hours during any week, the company would have no option other than to terminate her employment?
Funny thing is, up until a couple days ago, we didn't care about health care benefits from her employment because as a military retiree we could get Tricare or Tricare Prime. Except today we got a letter in the mail stating that effective October 1, 2013 we would no longer be covered by Tricare Prime since I am not disabled, under age 65 and might be able to get a job that provides healthcare benefits......the key word there is "might" Reality....I have a full time job as a government contractor...except I've been furloughed 6 out of 8 weeks since March. And my part time job as a substitute high school teacher, $65 per day, has no benefits.

Top Ten List of American Stupidity
10) Only in America ... could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign diner.
9) Only in America ... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black. 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics!
8) Only in America ... could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
7) Only in America ... can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
6) Only in America ... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.
5) Only in America ... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."
4) Only in America ... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
3) Only in America ... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
2) Only in America ... could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.
1) Only in America ... could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

Art vs Racism. Who decides? Why, the LEFT, of course!!
Last year, the Lefty Hollywood types took a fairly life like GWB mask, stuffed it, put a great head of hair on it, and put it on a POLE, to look like a beheaded peasant or enemy soldier for the show "Game of Thrones". Naturally, many on the Right thought it was inappropriate to do that to a still living ex-POTUS.
We were told, at various times and by various people attached to HBO and "Game of Thrones", that it was (a) joke / oversight / ART, and it wasn't meant as disrespect.
Of course the question then, is this. IF it wasn't done on purpose, WHY use that particular mask? If it wasn't a jab, or suggestion for where top put the ACTUAL head of GWB, why not use a Clinton mask? Carter mask? JFK mask? FDR mask? WHY use a mask at all? OK then, let's say that I'll believe what you said about (a) joke / oversight / ART. And now, to show just how open minded and above reproach they are on the Left, I'll post THIS STORY.
The Missouri State Fair has permanently banned a rodeo clown whose imitation of President Barack Obama has been widely criticized as disrespectful.
Fair officials said Monday that the rodeo clown has been barred from ever performing at the fair again. They are also reviewing whether to take any actions against the contractor responsible for Saturday’s rodeo.
During the event, a clown wore a mask of Obama and asked the spectators if they wanted to see “Obama run down by a bull.” Many in the audience responded enthusiastically.
A rodeo announcer said he had no advance knowledge of the widely-criticized act and his attorney said the clown went rogue.
State Fair officials said in a statement Sunday that the act was “inappropriate” and “does not reflect the opinions or standards” of the fair. The Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, which sponsored the event, also apologized in an online statement and said its board of directors “is dealing with the situation firmly and quickly as this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”
What the official statement should have said was
“...dealing with the situation firmly and quickly as this type of free speech will not be tolerated!”
So much for this guy's choices of (a) joke / ART right? I've YET to see anything from the rodeo clown, or to hear HIS side of wearing a mask, lampooning the clown at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Start Packing, SOMEBODY'S got to move!
Three years ago I moved out of a county that was busing to achieve racial, and economic diversity. Before I moved I voted for a (R) led school board that wanted to do away with that system. And they won, overwhelmingly, primarily because even the po' folks livin' in da' PJ's were sick of their kids being bused an hour away, so the school board members and the NAACP leadership could feel better about themselves.
As usual the Leftists sued and tied up the plan in court long enough for a NEW school board to over turn that. THEY won primarily because the voters didn't have enough nerve to stand up to the Lefty crowd. I'm no longer living there, so I don't care. But HUD has a MUCH better plan for ALL of us, and we can go back to neighborhood schools. But some of you rich WHITE MFers are gonna have to move!
HUD Proposes Plan to Racially, Economically Integrate Neighborhoods
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has proposed a new plan to change U.S. neighborhoods it says are racially imbalanced or are too tilted toward rich or poor, arguing the country's housing policies have not been effective at creating the kind of integrated communities the agency had hoped for.
Though details of how the policy would specifically work are unclear, the rule says HUD would provide states, local governments and others who receive agency money with data and a geospatial tool to look at "patterns of integration and segregation; racially and ethnically concentrated areas of poverty; access to education, employment, low-poverty, transportation, and environmental health."
States would then assess the best way to integrate communities deemed by HUD's data to not be integrated enough. A HUD official, who did not want to speak on record because of the public comment period, said the rule hopes to better match up HUD-assisted housing with the communities that have good hospitals, schools and other assets.
"It's not just having people of different colors live together just to do so," he says. "African-Americans and Latinos are more likely to live in segregated communities, that are predominantly lower income, have less strong public resources, less schools and educational opportunities, employment opportunities. This kind of integration strengthens economic equality."
.
So? Which of you is willing to uproot your family and move to a new house across the street for your town's toughest, drug infested, gang operated, gub'ment housing development? And I use the word 'willing' as a JOKE.
If they EVER got this approved, they'd be forcing us, or some of us, to move. And IF I'm not mistaken, that was a pretty standard way to operate, and is STILL the SOP, in Communist / Socialist run countries. Russia did it, NK does it, China does it, Cuba does it, they do it in HugoChavezland, seen it in Africa, Cambodia had a REALLY good plan for moving the people where the gov't wanted!!!
But those pesky intelectuals caused so much trouble, the kindly leaders were forced to kill several million of them.
Personally, I'm not moving, unless it's in a gov't approved, metal coffin, provided at their cost, carried by their minions. And I have the guns and ammo to prove my point. These SOB's have lost their GD minds!

Friday Funny(s)
If cats and dogs didn't have fur would we still pet them?
If peanut butter cookies are made from peanut butter,
then what are Girl Scout cookies made out of?
If space is a vacuum, who changes the bags?
If swimming is good for your shape,
then why do the whales look the way they do?
If tin whistles are made out of tin, what do they make fog horns out of?
If white wine goes with fish, do white grapes go with sushi?
If you jog backwards, will you gain weight?
If you take an Oriental person and spin him around several times,
does he become disoriented?
Why do the signs that say "Slow Children" have a picture of a running child?
Why do they call it "chili" if it's hot?

HOW can they get SO MUCH, so WRONG, SO OFTEN!?
I watch a LOT of TV. But I watch H2, Science Channel, Discovery, etc. And I understand that the great majority of campus crawlers ARE lefty hand-wringers. But HOW can they get SO MUCH, SO wrong, SO OFTEN!?
The Leftist, Hand-Wringer, Idiotoid Point of View is killing the World.
I just watched, and screamed at, a show on Science Channel, called "Radioactive Paradise". It was about the 23 atomic / hydrogen bomb tests at Bikini Atoll. One of the things that the YOUNG Boomer-type scientists kept pounding on, was the radioactivity still at the Atoll. They also talked to, and about, islanders and veterans who have had cancer because of the radioactivity. They ignored the ignorance factor there and then. And they showed plenty of footage of Senior military people and civilians crawling all over the ships used as targets. It's not as if the JUST sent junior personnel out there, because they knew about the danger. We learned as we went, and like John Hammond in Crichton's "Jurassic Park", we often learn the hard lessons slowly and painfully. One of these boobs kept saying how negligent the U.S. was to 'ever' do air burst testing, underwater testing, and how negligent they were to USE THE BOMBS that won WWII in the first place.
Oddly enough, that mouthy MFer was GERMAN!
Hey, no irony there, huh? But beyond his opinion of U.S. testing and the radioactivity left over, and how the natives have not gotten to go home yet, he thinks the Atoll may stay radioactive forever, and the radioactive islands have caused ecological damage to the South Pacific. Hey, I'm sorry it happened too, but I'm NOT sorry we won the GD war!
I'll tell you what they NEVER addressed, WHY we built those test bombs, nor WHY we used 2 of the GDed things in 1945!!
Now I don't think these idiots are proponents of outright fascism, but why is it that they always prefer the robbing, raping, murdering of Fascists, Communists and Religious Fanatics running amok, to the use of the overt brute force needed to stay free? And they NEVER seem to know that INTELLECTUALS and college professors are invariably the first ones sent to concentration camps, gulags and the f*^king killing fields. So, I repeat my original question,
HOW can they get SO MUCH, SO wrong, SO OFTEN!?

The Enemy Is, Us?
We all know how easy it is for illegal wetbacks, especially drug cartel members, to simply waltz across our border and commit an endless array of violent crimes here, including massive drug smuggling, kidnappings, murders, rapes, etc., then simply waltz back to Mexico. But what if those criminals didn't have to enter illegally? What if they could enter legally and commit those same crimes? What if those illegals were not illegals, but highly-trained members of (OUR) military?
Perhaps, instead of keeping itself busy trying to fill the ranks with queers and little females, and training our troops in the rules of political correctness, maybe the brass should start paying attention to something that could (literally) blow-up in their, or even worse, our faces...

Saturday Funnies
The wife's back on the warpath again. She was up
for making a sex movie last night, and all I did was suggest we should
hold auditions for her part.
~ ~ ~
I've accidentally swallowed some Scrabble tiles. My next bowel movement could spell disaster.
~ ~ ~
My sister-in-law sat on my glasses and broke them. It was my own fault. I should have taken them off.
~ ~ ~
I spent a couple of hours defrosting the fridge last night, or "foreplay" as she likes to call it.
~ ~ ~
After both suffering from depression for awhile, me and the wife were going to commit suicide yesterday. But strangely enough, once she killed herself, I started to feel a lot better. So I thought, "Screw it, soldier on...!"
~ ~ ~
I woke up this morning at 8, and could smell something was wrong. I got downstairs and found the wife face-down on the kitchen floor, not breathing! I panicked. I didn't know what to do. Then I remembered McDonald's serves breakfast until 11:30.
~ ~ ~
Bought the missus a hamster-skin coat last week. Took her to the fair last night, and it took me 3 hours to get her off the Ferris wheel.
~ ~ ~
The other night, my wife asked me how many women I'd slept with. I told her, "Only you. All the others kept me awake all night!"
~ ~ ~
My missus packed my bags, and as I walked out the front door, she screamed, "I wish you a slow and painful death, you bastard!"
"Oh," I replied, "so now you want me to stay!"
~ ~ ~
I've just installed strobe lights in the bedroom. It makes the wife look like she's moving during sex.

Loose Lips Sink Ships
Pssst, is our little gang being watched, tracked, and listened to? And if so, what would they learn, other than that some of us here might need some degree of "psychiatric supervision".
Personally, i don't have a problem with the NSA keeping track of terrorists and their supporters, no matter where they are. The problem is, Butch Napilitano and her Dept. of Homeland Stupidity are not quite sure just who or what a terrorist is. They're sure it's not Mooselambs. Ooooh, that's a no-no.
So who are the "terrorists"? Well, according to Butch Napilitano, she/he/it believes our returning combat vets, anyone who lawfully owns a firearm, Christians, White male Conservatives, and anyone who dares disagree with the Muslim-in-Chief, is a likely terrorist! Apparently, WE are the real threat our nation needs to protect itself from. Now do you understand why so many people are buying so much ammo?
