A National Disgrace

"A nation that treats it's welfare and illegal parasites (far better) than it treats it's warriors, is a nation unworthy of their sacrifice..." -- Spider

OK, I'll BITE...why is the guy on Medical Retirement making LESS than Active Duty? And it's not that I don't feel sorry for them, but I was a sailor in old Peanut Smile's Navy, we were NEVER eligible for any kind of outside help, in many places it was illegal to APPLY for Aid if one of you was in the Military.

I hate to jump off the 'We Hate Obama Train', but in D.C. they were shitting down the throats of our military before Obama ran for the IL Senate!

It's not just Obama, it's the whole government.

My military career started under Reagan....the best of times, survived Clinton...didn't know that the worst was yet to come...responded to, then tolerated shrub, and ended with the current regime, undoubtedly the worst of times.

Most people really don't understand that the federal government does not like the military. when you look at the number of veterans serving on Capital hill, it is a very small minority, and getting smaller. Part of it is because by time you leave the military, your debts are so high that you will never be able to afford to run for the school board let alone national office.

Occasionally they do get a few things right. The thing is, medical retirement is a retirement. It is not a wage. If it makes you feel better, my med. retired baby brother, who was a Staff Sergeant is getting a bigger retirement check after 8 years of service than I am getting as a field grade officer, with 28 years. of course it did cost him a leg.....and his is tax free.

Ultimately, just like every other "entitlement" that the feds have come up with, it is a means of gaining power and control. Allowing young soldiers to get food stamps, WIC, and other "entitlements" just means that they are justified in not raising their wages.....which saves on retirement 20 years down the road. Allowing them the "entitlements" also influences younger soldiers on the "benevolence" of their federal masters. It is amazing how many young soldiers think that it is the commanding general and Battalion commander who decides how much they get paid.

Schteveo, you are right, nobody in Washington cares about anyone in the military, unless there is a photo op.

Which....I got to tell you...reminds me of the story of when a certain Senator, now Secretary warned college students that if they didn't get a good education they might have to join the military. When said Senator came to Iraq for a photo op, soldiers were asked if they would be willing to have lunch with him and have their picture taken with him. I volunteered, but with the caveat that I wanted to ask if he could mail a letter for me when he got back to the States.

They said sure, what kind of letter is it? For my wife, or kids or parents? No, it was my application for graduation for my MBA, which I had completed while on active duty...and in Iraq.

They forgot to send for me for lunch.
