P.T. Barnum Was Right

Yes, P.T. Barnum, the old circus barker and showman was absolutely right when he supposedly said, "there's one born every minute." He was referring to, suckers. And, looking around at the American people today, i doubt old P.T. really knew just how right he was.

Case in point. One of the biggest fads today is bottled water which, in "trendy and enlightened " places like NYC, can often run $3 or $4 bucks a bottle, and more. Now i know there are parts of the country where the tap (or sink) water is totally undrinkable. I realized that years ago while in southern FL. I poured myself a glass of water from my cousins kitchen sink, as i would normally do at home, and almost died! It was like drinking liquid razor blades mixed with acid! Of course, she got a big laugh out of that.

Here in NYC, we're not blessed with many things, but one thing we are blessed with is outstanding drinking water right out of your sink. In fact, we've won several national contests because of it. So why would someone start a business here in NYC selling that very same sink water for $2.50 a cup? Well, old P.T. had the answer to that one, and i totally agree with him...

I feel ya' on ass water bud. having traveled around our wide country, I've tasted some great spring fresh tap water. And...I've been in fancy schmancy restaurants with business clients, where the wait staff put a lemon wedge in the water to cut the chlorine smell and the 300 y/o old water system oil slick!!

.....and PT Barnum didn't build his empire.....

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

I had to put on my Earth shoes and go out to buy some bottled water because my pet rock wouldn't drink the NYC tap water.

By the way, I'm putting the Brooklyn Bridge back on the market.
