With Friends Like These,...

You know that old saying, "with friends like these, who needs enemies."

It applies to a situation when your so-called "friends" are more of a danger to you than your enemies are. This seems to be the case in Afghanistan. More of our warriors are being killed by Afghan police officers and army soldiers than are being killed by Al-Qaeda. And, as usual, they are the same people we're training, arming, and funding. And, as is also usual in the middle east, terrorists have heavily infiltrated the ranks of people who "claim" they want to help their country. Of course, no one in the US govt. seems to have the brains to ask, "oh yeah, why now "? Why have you waited until now to help your country? Nor do they have the brains to ask, WTF ARE WE DOING HERE! And, if your answer to that question is, the 9/11 attack, remember, it wasn't Afghanistan (nor was it Iraq) or the Taliban that attacked us. It was Al-Qaeda.

We have been fighting in Afghanistan for over ten years now. It's the longest war we have ever fought, and IMO, the most meaningless one. IMO, for all that we've accomplished there, (whatever that may be) we could have done the same thing, and more, just with air power. Of course, we wouldn't have been able to build new schools, new roads, hospitals, shopping centers, movie theaters, swimming pools, and God-only knows what else our money has been wasted on. Once again, we went around the world to people who were/are perfectly happy living in the 10th century, and forced them to live as we say they should. And we wonder why people hate us?

Of the things that, IMO, will eventually destroy America, our busy-body, nanny-state foreign policy, and our mindless immigration policy, must be near the very top of the list...

Time to get out and just let them kill each other

...what we needed to do, LONG ago, was to go into Iran, and stop the biggest supplier of money and support to Islamic Radicals. Crushing the Imams in Iran would solve 95% of thus stuff.

And it would solve ALL of the problems with the Afghan militants.

Well, here's some good news. Our troops are (now) being told that they can keep their weapons loaded while on base. Maybe now, instead of just being shot down like dogs by so-called "allies", they can fire back? Then again, maybe they're not allowed to fire their weapons, just keep them loaded. That wouldn't surprise me.

What truly amazes me is how these brave and dedicated warriors don't simply shoulder their weapons and come home. Let the armchair generals and politicians go and fight.

Spider,
that's not exactly right.

They were told it wasn't necessary to carry in the Green Zone it was their choice. NOW they are REQUIRED to carry 24/7. They were never told they couldn't carry.

Actually....in the Greenzone, we were always required to carry, but couldn't have the weapon locked & loaded. And depending on where you were located, you had to ensure that your ammo was secured in a "safe" place where it could not be easily dislodged and lost....such as undere a double or triple lair of pouches and pockets.

Personally I always carried a magazine (9 mm) in my "Air Force gloves" more commonly referred to as a pocket, with my "inspectable" ammo properly secured. Nobody every asked about my "non-inspectable" items.

I do have to agree, the longer that we are there, the more pointless it seems.

Now here is something I almost hate to say.....keep in mind how much blood and sweat has been lost trying to make these peoples lives better. To the people shedding this blood and sweat it is a noble endeavor. We suffer from the as yet undiagnosed/named/identfied mental defect of wanting to see our efforts become successful....and maybe to a fault we keep volunteering to go back in hopes that we might be able to "finish" the job.

Hell, I retired from the big green machine 3 years ago. I started drawing a pension. The amount of that pension is 2/3 of the median wage for working people in America, and I got it for sitting on my duff. 9 months ago....I asked to be recalled to get back into the fight until the job is done.

Anybody know a good psychiatrist?
