One of the reasons the The One got elected was the undying support of the Teachers Union. The folks over there have been supporting the Dems for-ev-er. Well, not to leave anyone out of his Post Election About-Face Club, President BOHICA today announced that he's FOR both Teacher Merit Pay and School Vouchers.

President Barack Obama called for tying teachers' pay to students' performance and expanding innovative charter schools Tuesday, embracing ideas that have provoked hostility from members of teachers unions. He also suggested longer school days—and years—to help America's kids compete in the world.
In his first big speech on education, Obama said the United States must drastically improve student achievement to regain lost international standing.
"The future belongs to the nation that best educates its citizens," he said. "We have everything we need to be that nation ... and yet, despite resources that are unmatched anywhere in the world, we have let our grades slip, our schools crumble, our teacher quality fall short and other nations outpace us."
His solutions include teacher pay and charter school proposals that have met resistance among members of teachers unions, which constitute an important segment of the Democratic Party.

Despite their history on the issues, union leaders publicly welcomed Obama's words, saying it seems clear he wants to include them in his decisions in a way President George W. Bush did not.
"We finally have an education president," said Randi Weingarten, president of the 1.4 million-member American Federation of Teachers.

That bus done run over the republicans a couple times, backed over them a couple too. Then it let them lie there during the Obama rush hour and millions of buses turned them into flattened road kill!

Let me remind you there HLT, or whomever ye be, the 1st President Bush broke ONE, 1, Uno, a number less than 2, greater than zero, campaign promises. That, "read my lips...no new taxes..." thing. And it cost him dearly. It cost him the election, remember? If you're that old, I have no idea, go ask mom and dad if you're young.
But I digress.
The point IS, that The One, President BOHICA, The Messiah from ChiTown, made a shit pot load of campaign promises, that he has rolled over on in 50 days. His thinking may be that if he screws them NOW, they'll be through being mad in November 2012. Or maybe he just doesn't care what the voters will do. He already knows that by 2012 we'll be just another 3rd World country on the dole from the U.N.
I wouldn't worry too much about what the half-breed says since it's usually the opposite of what he does. But if Randi Weingarton, the communist lesbian from the NYC teachers union, likes his idea, then it's bad.

Bush the elder didn't lose the election because he broke a campaign promise. The brainstem cons voted for him anyway.
He lost because he thought he could simply go fishing and "preside" instead of govern and we had yet another republican recession during his term.

you're right about Perot. But many of us voted Perot because of GHWB's tax LIE. Polls at the time showed that the margin of Perot voters who bolted from Bush, went Perot because of the No New Taxes thing.
He flinched and it cost us all.
Perot may have been a bit whacky, but he would have made a good president. But the last thing the American people want is honesty.
