Of all the stupid ideas...here are several.

.
Well friends, we bring ourselves to Uncle Schteveo's LEAST favorite month of the Year. March. I know, I know, technically I'm late on getting to my hate for March. I gave it a chance, but it caught up with me again this year. Actually, it caught up with me this morning, at 2:00 A.M. , no make that 1:00 A.M. But why hate a month? Two reasons. Daylight Savings Time, and [visible shudder] Basketball.
.
I hate DST. It's a ridiculous concept. It's predicated on the idiot concept that losing an hour NOW, then gaining it back in OCTOBER, is easier than just getting your lazy ass out of bed earlier during the longer days of the year, if you want more daylight working hours.
.
In all the years I worked, from paper routes as a lad, to international field service as an adult, I had one 9 to 5 job in my life. It lasted all of 8 months in a 40 year working career.
.
I've worked every kind of early, late, swing, mid, crazy shift ever invented. The best shift I ever had was a 5 month stint where I had NO field service calls, but got paid anyway. It sucked really. The worst, but highest paid shift, was in 1982. I worked from 7 A.M on a Tuesday morning, until 1 A.M. on Friday morning, straight thru, with a couple naps during a co-gen outage in the oil patch outside Bakersfield. With O.T., it was a $1300 "day".
.
But in all that time, all those years, no one ever adjusted the clock to make my life easier. My bosses expected me to be there, regardless of when I actually wanted to go to bed and get up.
.
A system I think the country should return to. Adjust your own time, not everyone elses.
.
.
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five active players each try to score points against one another by propelling a ball through a 10 feet (3 m) high hoop (the goal) under organized rules. Basketball is one of the most popular and widely viewed sports in the world.
.
In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a Canadian physical education professor from McGill University of Montréal and instructor at YMCA Training School(today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters.
.
That is the original, classic definition and history. What follows is the 21st Century truth.
.
.
Basketball is a, SUPPOSED, team sport in which INDIVIDUALS each try to score points against one another, regardless of being teammates, by propelling a ball through a 10 feet high hoop while wearing Diamond Earrings the size of which would make Jackie O blush. Thousands of dollars worth of Tattoos and brands are mandatory, even among the un-paid college players. The sometimes enforced rules are a joke, no blood, no foul, especially if you play in Chicago. Basketball is one of the most popular (African-American) sports and although no longer widely viewed, according to those Neilsen people, it continues to take over entertainment and the MSM for 5 weeks every spring in America. Rioting is optional, but is to be expected directly following any win, by any team, anywhere, any time. Race of rioters is unknown, or unreported anyway.
.
This coverage, of the games not the rioting, will undoubtedly get worse beings THE ONE is a fan. Part of the Stimulus Plan is to issue each of us a foam finger. I can only hope that I get to pick which finger protrudes.
.
Most modern players of "bastet'bah", never heard of Dr. James Naismith.
.
Isn't he also that guitar guy from "The Monkees"?
.
The "playahs" assume that the sport was created as a platform for them to get laid, be thugs and have 27 children, most born out of wedlock. This is of course started while they're still in Junior High School. Amazingly, and in spite of it being a vigorous indoor game, with proper levels of fitness required, the college and pro game are mostly controlled, and reported on by un-tanned, middle-aged, white guys, most of whom, have never played, thugged, or whored.
.
But they wanted to!! Especially that last part.
.
.
Scheteveo wants his hour back.

OK, I'll bite. How does making it lighter at the bus stop in March, protect them when its darkest out there, way back in January or December?

I've heard that said too, but it's total BS.

Cowpill,
Spring Break is for the teachers, not the students. I say let them work.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

Are the Democrats angry over DST and b'ball too?

Here's the skinny on DST, another irrational intrusion by govt..

No DST on the Islands (or Arizona). The problem is causes me is, it's now a 5-hour difference between here and Austin, which makes calling home a little trickier.

My father (God rest his soul) always said DST was so politicians would have an extra hour to play golf in the evening. That's actually kind of hard to argue with.

An Interesting Event in Victoria, Texas
Victoria, Texas (pop. 55,000) is a town about 80 miles west of Houston.

Local Hispanic leaders there, in opposition to pending Immigration Legislation, boycotted all Caucasian owned businesses in the Victoria area this past weekend as a demonstration of their economic impact on the community. The boycott was declared a success by the Hispanic community, noting that revenue in Caucasian owned businesses was down by 19%.

Business owners declared the boycott a success as well, pointing out that shoplifting was reduced by 77%, money orders sent out of the country were down by 97%, and the cost of daily clean-up and trash collection was down by 84%. Shoppers reported that they could actually hear English being spoken throughout the community for the first time in recent memory, and customers actually paid for purchases with real money, not government debit cards.

eat me,
NASCAR is a big deal in certain places. And it goes on for 10 months out of the year. BUT, it is NOT mentioned at every news break, commercial or show intro, for that 10 months. And it's just on the weekend, usually Saturday and Sunday. Unless you have the Speed Channel.

Although the Neilsen numbers are down the March Madness craze goes on, and on, and on. Before the NCAA tourney even starts, there are 40 regional playoff series. It starts on Wed night or Thur night, and runs through Sunday night, for 5 friggin weeks!!!

If NASCAR tried to match that, there would have to be 5 more racing series and 40 more decent tracks. And ultimately, IF you're not a NASCAR fan, you can avoid it. You can't avoid March Madness, it's EVERYWHERE!!!

Now lets see if the folks in that town are smart enough to keep it that way.

During WWII, DST was also used to help get the population emotionally involved in the war effort. For the suburbs, there was more time to work on you Victory Garden, freeing up farm produce to feed the soldiers.

Part of the shared sacrifice that is missing today....

Anon, I agree with the shared pain. I said long ago and have repeated that GWB should have rationed gasoline and power. It would have kept everyone's eyes on the goal, the way it was on 9 / 12 / 01.
