But, But - It Might Make Them Feel Bad About Themselves!!

States consider drug tests for welfare recipients

I seem to remember this idea floating around here a while ago. I'm actually kinda surprised that it passed (at least partway) in places.

when republicans suggested this they were shouted down by the liberal scum..

now that we have Obama's Change, it's a good idea

definition of Obama's Change - take a republican policy or position that democrats rejected in the past, change the name & call it Change...

But it's OK to fingerprint homeowners in Illinois?

"Poverty and civil liberties advocates fear the strategy could backfire, discouraging some people from seeking financial aid and making already desperate situations worse."

OK, so your broke or unemployed or both, possibly because of drugs, but the gub'ment is "prying" if THEY want to see if YOU are high and unable to work, and you'd rather be HIGH than be FED for FREE? Uh, here's a hint, I don't care about how your "desperate situation" is worsened, if YOU are the one making it WORSE.

I've applied for Federal Jobs, I've worked where there as Federal Oversight, I've pee pee'd in many a cup!! And that was so I could WORK for my money. I didn't feel like they were prying, I felt like I had to obey the law, to keep my paychecks coming or get the job.

So, you don't want to do that for a FREE check, well...WAH!!

Go hungry.

The fingerprints are bad because it is being forced on you for a service you don't need. (An attorney/notary/other can verify documents for housing sales).

A random drug test to receive free money - taken from people that have to take drug tests to earn the money - I'm up with that.

The new poster child ---
The guy who lost his job for doing drugs and isn't eligible for unemployment. Answer - move to Europe.

My personal solution for our society is uncomplicated, as always. If you don't work and produce for this country, you don't eat. If you do have, or want a job and your employer (pvt. or govt.) requires a drug test, or if you live off the tax payers, you will take it! And so that my reputation for being overly compassionate remains intact, i have some exceptions to the work rule.

1, If you had a job and lost it and you're actively looking for work, fine, we'll feed you.

2. If you're disabled (and unlike congress, i don't consider drug addiction a disability) we'll feed you and care for you.

3. If you're a combat veteran, you'll get all we have to give. (This also applies to women under 50 who are a "natural" D-cup.)

Then, legalize and tax all drugs the same way we do alcohol. If an addict needs $500. worth of drugs a day, give the cretin $1500. worth every day. The result of course is, an overdose. Perfect! In a year or two the problem will be solved.

People who have made living off of the taxpayers a family tradition never feel bad about them selves. It's only when you force them to work for what they get that they feel bad.

Heidi,
what worries me is that if I make you laugh, you may have the same kind of twisted sense of humor I have.

It's OK for a cranky old, cast iron, southern gentlemen like myself. But a nice young woman like you shouldn't openly admit to such a "twist".
