Business as usual

Has anyone seen the weather news today!!! They're predicting a BLIZZARD for the Northeast!! OMG, snow in NY, NJ, PA, clear up through MAINE!!? In December? How could it happen?
.
I blame George Bush.
.
Thus far this morning, I've seen story after story about rain and mudslides in L.A., and blizzards in Denver, Chicago, Cleveland and the coming blizzard, as much as 6" to 10" in NYC, Boston and maybe "...as far SOUTH as" Philly.

(emphasis mine)

As far south as Philly? Since when is Philadelphia SOUTH? Oh, when you live in NYC it is, I forgot. Oh, and BTW, it snowed in NC and SE Virginia about 2" to 10", they said in passing.
.
Well, I'd like to write an Open Letter to the (typically ignorant, NYC, L.A., big city ONLY conscious) weather reporters of America. Here goes...
.
.
Dear Weather Reporting Jerks of 'merica,
my name is Schteveo. I live in a small town in Johnson County, NC. At midnight last night I had ZERO snow in my yard. At 8 o'clock this morning, I had 8" of snow in my yard. It's 29 degrees outside, the wind is gusting to 20 mph, and the power keeps going out. It's still snowing, the roads are impassable and may be for several days.
.
If 8" to 10" of snow in the Northeast is a blizzard, a place that sees snow near that level almost yearly, without doubt...WTF do you think the SAME fucking conditions constitute in places that go YEARS without ANY snow?!!
.
I know it's hard to see the parallel when you see the world with your eyes covered by your own anal sphincter, but once in a while, come out for air, and look around, the world is a varied and wonderful place, but one man's blizzard, is still another man's blizzard!! BLIZZARD is a static term, within reason.

Yours truly
Snowed in Schteveo

PS,
It could be several days before I can get to the grocery store, anybody got a good recipe for Miniature Schnauzer?

Doesn't matter how you cook it, just make sure you have plenty of Grey Poupon and some Saur Kraut.

Stop crying. What's a few inches of snow compared to the "2 feet" we're expecting! And since the local airports have already canceled all flights, i can't even get down south! (50 in FL. is better than 5 in NYC)

Yo, brother Poots, what is is out by you today, like 75?

A blizzard isn't the amount of snow.

A blizzard is a weather condition that is distinguished by low temperatures, strong winds, and large quantities of either falling or blowing snow. The U.S. Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm with winds of more than 56 km (35 miles) per hour (for at least 3 straight hours duration) and enough snow to limit visibility to 150 m (500 feet) or less. A severe blizzard has winds of over 72 km (45 miles) per hour, visibility near zero, and temperatures of -12 C (10 F) or lower. A ground blizzard occurs when there is no falling snow, but snow is drifting and blowing near the ground.

The Northern Mid-Atlantic and New England states along the coast are experiencing that amount of wind and gusts expected to exceed 60 MPH this evening.

Therefore, the definition of a "blizzard warning" as opposed to "watch" is accurate.

A Noreaster is distinguished as a tropical storm or hurricaine track storm which occurs after Nov 30th.

Both usually bring lots of snow and high winds. They are defined and distinguished by origin and date from other types of storms. The amount of snowfall is irrelevant.

The amount of alcohol consumed is comparable in all the aforementioned scenarios.

Well, primarily the difference is equipment.

In NY, PA, MN, et al, you HAVE eqpt to clear snow, treat roads, etc, down here it might be 3 days before they clear the main road I live near, and the development is still under the maintenance of the developer who will NOT be clearing the 1/4 mile TO that main road.

I lived up north, and I can tell you, there's a huge difference. Closed airports has to do with after effect and safety. Closed cities and towns has to do with inability to cope.

Poots,
because of the snow he's already decide to popoun the rug, but thanks for the saur kraut idea.

Uh huh, right you are Bill. But you're making my point, the SAME conditions there are a blizzard, here it was just "snowing".

They plow it which means they make piles of snow of which they have no idea where put them. Usually they bury cars, make streets impossible to cross, and give bus drivers something to aim their doors toward so you can't get on or off.

In other words, NYC is a huge fcuking mess right now, and it'll be worse on Mon. I've got 12" of snow on my terrace, and it's covered!
