What the...

.
Close but no banana at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. The results are in.
.
Mitt Romney - 438
.
Ron Paul - 437
.
Sarah Palin - 330
.
Newt Gingrich - 321
.
.
OK, so a slim majority of "Republicans" straw polled for Romney, the RINO. In point of fact, the slimmest possible majority. A single vote. To have seen him strutting, you'd have thought it was Mussolini or Hitler strutting. Chest out, head swiveling, arms pumping almost in military precision. I saw the video, with the sound turned down, as Mrs Schteveo was on the phone, and I am very effing polite, thank you very freakin' much! But after the video, I found this article.

He's strutting over a single vote win, in a straw poll? He's further out there than I thought.
.
But let us look right behind him. OK, he won the race. But given the current feelings in the country, he's got Secretariat, Citation and Whirlaway, on his heels. Those almost wons look like a good group for 2012. Almost any combination can go to the WH and Sec State to me.
.
It's not a Romney win if you read it right, because he really got beat 1088 to 438. Old school, Conservative Republicans vs Moderate, sweaty, gotta go, RINO's.
.
But I'm betting, Michael Steele, who is IMHO just a very senior level RINO, will back Romney, thus ensuring a lackluster comeback. Romney can't stand up to the Democrats, he's a "bridge builder". What we need is a name taker, ass kicker, bridge burning, boat renter!!
.
Paul, Palin, Jindal, Gingrich...almost anybody, but...NOT Romney. Hell, he's as wishy-washy as McCain. He was another "Republican" with an ALTERNATIVE plan for health care. That thinking is NOT good enough, it's not morally conservative enough, certainly not fiscally conservative enough if all he had was an alternative.
.
And BTW, where the HELL is Fred Thompson?

I agree Steve. To me, Romney is a progressive like the weakling John McLoser. Remember, he was elected governor in one of the most liberal states in the country. You don't get there by being a conservative, or even a real Republican.

And Thompson? IMO, old Fred says all the right things, but i don't think he has the stomach for it. I watched his campaign, back when he was trying for the WH, and the only impression i got from him was, this guy doesn't really want the job, he just wants to see if he could get it. And when he saw that he actually had a good shot at it, he ran away.

If we want our country back, Ron Paul is the guy that'll do it.

Yeah, I agree with your view of Romney. AND he signed the Mass-a-two-shits Health Care debacle.

I see the Thompson thing differentlt though. I think he got blocked by the RNC. Money wise and campaign support wise. I remember him being on Hannity or O'Reilly and he all but said they'd already cast the national support structure toward Romney or McCain.

I don't care what you feel like you want to do, if you KNOW you're being undermined from the get go, it's hard to put on a game face. Thompson is an actor, but he's not Frederick March or Spencer Tracey.

He'd still be a great choice for Sec. Defense or State. He's a lawyer, put his ass on the SCOTUS!! That would drive the Hollyweird crowd off a cliff. And wouldn't that be a great show to watch.

Hmmm. interesting. Thompson I like, as Ron Paul who is more of a Libertarian than a Repulican, certainly NOT a Conservative, I like as well. I like Guiliani, who ran an aweful campaign, but is a good choice to me. he cleaned up NYC like no other. And it took Bloomberg quite a while to undo only some of the golod stuff Guilinai did after years of poor management beforehand.

Thompson on the SCOTUS? Now you're talking! But you'll never see it so long as the Mooselamb is in the Oval Office.

And Bill, while i'd love to see Guiliani back as mayor, or better yet, governor of NY, i don't think he's ready for the WH. But, if the Repubs don't win by a huge margin in Nov, (and grow some balls) nothing will change.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

"The failure to identify our enemy for what it is, violent Islamist extremism, is offensive and contradicts thousands of years of accepted military and intelligence doctrine to know your enemy...[The September 11, 2001 attacks were not carried out by] some amorphous group of violent extremists or environmental extremists or white supremacist extremists...It’s absolutely Orwellian and counterproductive to the fight that we’re fighting at risk of great life every day to stop violent extremism of an Islamist base." – Senator Joe Lieberman

My brother owns a radio station that used to carry O'Reilly. When he stopped doing radio, The Fred Thompson show was recommended to replace it. The ratings have dropped steadily ever since. People like what Thompson says, if they can stay awake long enough to hear it. I guess he's a little too laid back - just like his campaign was.

So Ron Paul is Secretariat, Sarah Palin is Citation, and Newt Gingrich is Whirlaway? I get the reference to the Triple Crown but I wonder if they thought about being "put out to pasture" and if Sarah likes being compared to a stud?
