Sometimes I see a story and I think it's no big deal. Then I hear it three days later, and it becomes an "Oh My God", moment. That's how the following story hit me.

Today's culture warriors have better things to argue about than pot-smoking hippies, yet federal marijuana laws are still stuck in the Nixon-era days when conservatives feared that reefer madness was destroying the minds of America's youth. Amid that time warp, efforts by California and other states to nudge Washington in the direction of more sensible drug laws have largely been welcome. But whether or not you're in the camp that thinks marijuana should be legalized, a proposal to regulate and tax its sale as a way of helping to balance California's budget is an idea whose time has not come.
A bill from Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco -- where else?) that would do precisely that was introduced Monday. It would, first, decriminalize the possession and sale of marijuana under state law, and, second, set up a system for regulating and taxing it. The sales and taxation part only happens, though, if the federal government decriminalizes marijuana too, or at least allows states to make their own decisions about the drug.

Ammiano and his supporters argue that the state is losing out on more than $1 billion a year in tax revenues because its biggest cash crop, marijuana, is illegal and therefore not taxable.
.
And here's the weird part. Our new Attorney General, Eric "don't be a racial coward" Holder, is telling California that the DEA is going to quit bothering the Medical Marijuana Clinics.

In my mind though, it gets more Twilight Zone twisted.

What if, given the bizarre thought patterns of liberals, the unintended benefit of this is the states taking draconian powers AWAY from the feds, and giving it to the themselves, the local liberals? Suppose this is a chink in the armor of the federal power structure?

The state of California is in a depression. They are looking for revenue streams. Here's one with an ongoing BILLIONS of dollars to be netted, known money, now untouchable, waiting to be plucked. But there are at least a dozen other states where the DEA and Ag Department says pot is the number one crop.

Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi, Florida and right here North Carolina are on the list. None of them has a pot to piss in right now. They're watching CA and the DEA like a hawk. Revenue is revenue. And billions are hard to pass up.
OK, I've set the table, served the shrimp cocktail, and here's the entree.

There are a thousand other things that the federales NOW control, that the states SHOULD control, that can be minimally taxed to help the states get back on their feet. Ultimately, power can trickle back to the states.

In the weeks leading up to Obama's inauguration, Saad Hussein [*snicker*], an Ethiopian refugee in his late 20s, sent an envelope addressed to "Barack Obama" to offices of the Illinois government in Springfield, Ill., according to court documents.

Hussein… told FBI agents he was actually "an admirer" of Obama and was "seeking help from the government," according to court documents. He also told them he was hoping to obtain tickets to the Inaugural ceremonies in Washington, the documents said. [Certainly he’s an admirer – they share the same name! He just wants to be Oh!’s blood brother…]

Hussein, who has never held a job in the three years he's been in the United States, [what??!!] was arrested last month. He was charged with "knowingly" mailing letters "containing HIV-infected blood, with the intent to kill or injure another," in violation of federal law. [A crazy black Muslim immigrant with HIV who has never held a job? He’s the liberal’s perfect poster boy. This guy’s going to walk.]

A judge ordered he receive a mental examination to see if he's fit for trial, but as of two weeks ago the court couldn't locate a translator to conduct the examination, according to court documents. [But, he’s an Oh! supporter – proof he’s insane! Put him in a plush padded room with all the amenities at tax payer’s (that would be conservative’s) expense.]

This is not the first time law enforcement officials have had to take Hussein into custody. He was arrested by police in 2006 after starting a fire in the middle of a crowded Chicago intersection. When officers arrived on the scene, he was waving the Koran in the air and yelling"Allah Akbar," or "God is Great" in Arabic. Court documents say he was transported to a hospital, where he called President Bush a terrorist and criticized American foreign policy. He was not formally charged, but he did spend time in the mental health unit of the hospital. [Of course he wasn’t charged – calling Bush a terrorist automatically got him a free pass and hero status in the liberal court system.]

By all normal intents and purposes (not to mention our immigration laws), this guy should be put on the next plane back to Ethiopia. But by all liberal intents and purposes – he will be a burden on taxpayers (conservatives) for the rest of his life.

The European Space Agency (ESA) on Friday named a Frenchman and a German who will join four Russians in an innovative 105-day isolation experiment to test whether humans can one day fly to Mars.

From March 31, the six "crew" will be locked inside a special facility in Moscow that replicates conditions of a space trip to Mars.

The simulation will be followed by a 520-day experiment, starting later this year, that would last as long as a real mission to Mars.

The two Europeans are Oliver Knickel, 28, a mechanical engineer in the German army, and Cyrille Fournier, 40, a captain with Air France who flies A320 airliners, ESA said in a press release.

The distance between Earth and Mars varies between 55 million kilometres (34 million miles) and more than 400 million kms (250 million miles).

Using current rocket technology, a there-and-back trip to the Red Planet would take at least 18 months.

But how is this an experiment? When old sailing ships were the space ships of their day, 20 or 30 hearty souls would go to sea for MONTHS on end without hitting port.

Hell in 1979 I was at sea for 44 days once, 1 day in port and back into the Indian Ocean for another 21 days. Trust me, you were more isolated at sea THEN, than people on the Space Station are NOW. They have e-mail and internet access on the space station, and in this research module I'll wager, we had...NOTHING.

Budget crises put tax refund checks on hold
Boys and girls, it's time to have less withheld from your paycheck for taxes and invest (or spend) your savings elsewhere. Or better yet, make sure you have to send in a check come April 15. (I know....I, for one, am disgusted by the amount this year, not to mention next year!) The average tax refund is over $2000, and about three out of four individual taxpayers will get a refund. But getting a tax refund is like asking for the vegetarian menu at Bill's Barbeque, especially now.

Fairfax, Va. - The United States Senate has voted, with overwhelming bipartisan support, to adopt an amendment offered by Senator John Ensign (R-NV) that seeks to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in the District of Columbia. The amendment, attached to S.160, the D.C. Voting Rights Act, will repeal restrictive gun control laws passed by the District of Columbia's (D.C.) city council after the landmark D.C. v. Heller Supreme Court decision. The vote margin was 62-36.
"Today's vote brings us one step closer to restoring the Second Amendment freedom of law-abiding D.C. residents," said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. "It's ludicrous that good people in our nation's capital continue to be harassed as they try to defend themselves and their loved ones in their own homes. This vote reinforces the historic Heller ruling."
After the Heller ruling, the D.C. city council passed a law requiring would-be gun owners to pay a registration fee, pass a 20-question multiple choice test, take a five-hour training course, undergo an invasive background check every six years, re-register any firearm every three years, and finally, submit all handguns for ballistics testing. Current D.C. law also bans an overwhelming majority of firearms commonly used for self-defense. This Ensign Amendment would also remedy that unjust practice.
"NRA would like to thank the lead sponsor, Sen. John Ensign for his efforts to reform D.C.'s gun laws and enable folks to protect their property and their loved ones," concluded Cox. "It's time for leaders in Washington to wake up to the fact that the Supreme Court decision is now the law of the land."

Cops discover 11th body at N.M. crime scene

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Police in New Mexico have unearthed an 11th body outside Albuquerque.
The remains were found buried in roughly 30-by-10-yard area atop a mesa west of the city.
Police have been searching the area since Feb. 2, when a hiker found a human bone on the mesa, which had been cleared for a housing development.

Albuquerque police think one person is responsible for burying the bodies but have not named a suspect.

You mean 16 different people didn't use the same plot to bury the bodies? Who writes this stuff? Better still, who needed to be told it's probably just one person?

I'm not a fan of Albuquerque, but this seems like trouble for them, that NO ONE needs. But is this drug war related, and NOT a serial killer? Drug addicted street people would make good mules.

Family members said 58-year-old bus driver Jim Moffett and another man were helping two elderly women cross a busy Denver street in a snowstorm when he was hit Friday night.

The Colorado State Patrol issued the citation. Trooper Ryan Sullivan said that despite Moffett's intentions, jaywalking contributed to the accident.

Moffett had been driving his bus when the two women got off. In the interest of safety, he got out and, together with another passenger, helped the ladies cross.

Trooper Sullivan is an over officious JERK. He may have cited the driver, but citing Moffett is a travesty. The article goes on to say that Sullivan DID NOT cite the ladies Moffett saved.

This article, sent to me by a friend, touches on a subject we've discussed here before. It has to do with the question, is Yobama "legally" qualified to be president under our Constitution. The question, aside from causing some to laugh at it's "alleged absurdity", is one that is still of great concern to many others, especially since the question has never been fully answered, only mocked.
As many of us know, if Yobama was a conservative president, congress would be awash with major investigations, hearings, panels, committies, sub-committies, etc. People like Rep. Henry (pig nose) Waxman might even take time out from his obsession with GWB to look into it. But with this congress, if Yobama was holding a ChiCom passport and that little red book, they wouldn't blink an eye.
When we last talked about this issue, there were some here who, (perhaps understandably) mocked the notion of the president not actually being a US citizen. If i recall, "the idea is too preposterous" was one way it was put. The (fact) that the American people have s0-far been denied seeing official documents that would answer all these questions, is still very troubling to many. Many! Of course, if you look back in history, you would find that some of the most diabolical schemes ever perpetrated were successful because they were termed "too absurd to be possible". My only question is still what it was the last time we discussed this. What if?

Face To Face With Reality
In the event some of you haven't seen this yet, i thought it worthy of sharing it with you. These are some sobering thoughts from a man who's opinions i truly respect. IMO, unlike this author, i believe the American people are too far gone to wake-up and come to their senses, especially when you look at the results of the last election. Whether it pertains to some extremely dangerous world conditions, or our own huge problems here at home, IMO, the American people seem to be a rudder-less ship, going only in the direction they're being pushed in. Is The 2nd Amendment Question Settled?
IMO, not by a long shot. We New Yorkers are used to dealing with draconian measures when it comes to gun ownership. NYC has had, (the old Sullivan Law) and continues to have, some of the most stringent laws and regulations in the nation when it comes to legally having a firearm , yet i'd be willing to bet there are more guns in this city, than in the entire state of Mexas, x-10. Oddly enough, if you're a celebrity, one of the MSM's on-air talking heads, or a rabbi, (huh?) NYC's crazy rules don't seem to apply. Once you leave the city and go upstate, the rules become more sane and realistic.
In fact, gun ownership here in NYC is not only draconian for civilians, but for Police Officers as well. In 1994, The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, (HR-218) was signed into law by president G.W. Nitwit. Basically, it allows qualified law enforcement officers, both active and retired, to carry a concealed weapon anywhere in the country. The idea behind this law was to give hundreds-of-thousands of trained professionals the ability to bolster other law enforcement officers in the event of some national emergency, wherever they might be. Not surprisingly, it is being blocked by our limp-wristed, fascist mayor Bloomberg, the country's #1 anti-gun zealot. One of the provisions of HR-218 states, "an officer can only be qualified by his former agency". Tens-of-thousands of highly-trained NYPD officers are being "officially obstructed" from complying with this law by "His Majesty" Bloomberg.
NY's new US senator, Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) was recently appointed by our black, blind, and clueless, "unelected" governor to fill Hitlary's senate seat. She comes from upstate NY where there are a lot less Kool-Aid drinkers, and the word gun does not induce immediate hysteria, as it does in NYC. In fact, she herself is a gun lover and hunter! Well, she was. She received a great deal of support from NY's other senator, slick Chuckie (lens lice) Shumer, who is a rabid anti-gun nut, but didn't care about her stance, so long as they got another Demoncrat into congress. The idea being, once she's in DC, and with enough pressure, they could make sure she "sees the errors of her ways". And that's exactly what seems to be happening. So much for the integrity of Dumbocrats. Look for the assault to continue...

Arrest Made in Home Foreclosure Civil Disobedience Program
Police in Baltimore today made what is believed to be the first arrest in a civil disobedience program aimed at supporting homeowners who refuse to vacate their foreclosed homes.
An activist with ACORN — the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now — faces criminal charges after breaking into a home in southeast Baltimore on Thursday to protest the foreclosure crisis sweeping the country.
"This program is saying, 'We are not going,'" Cox said last week. "People say we're breaking the law, but we don't see how putting a person back in an abandoned property is harming anyone."
They "say" you're breaking the law? How about you ARE breaking the law. Civil disobedience is a worthy statement when we're talking about Rosa Parks. I'm not so into it when we're talking about people that took on mortgages they knew they couldn't afford and now are crying about it. Notice how the woman who used to live in this house can't pay her mortgage any more, but there is not mention of a lost job or change of circumstances. Hmmm.

As you know, the Congress recently passed—and President Barack Obama signed into law—the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (P.L. 111–5) along partisan lines. I could not support this legislation, which increases the size and scope of the federal government, adds over $1 trillion to the federal deficit, and fails to reduce the tax burden on all working families and small businesses. In fact, this legislation will increase Texans share of the national debt by almost $90 billion and according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, will have a negative impact on economic growth over the next ten years.
Nonetheless, I remain committed to finding real solutions that will have an immediate, positive impact on the economy. During the Senate’s debate of P.L. 111–5, I supported an amendment that would have helped address the struggling housing market. The Fix Housing First Amendment (S.Amdt. 353) would have made 4 to 4.5 percent mortgages available to every creditworthy American in an effort to ease the pressure on family budgets. Millions of Texans would have qualified for this refinancing option—translating into an average $300 reduction in the monthly mortgage payments of middle-class families. Additionally, this amendment would have created a $15,000 homebuyer tax credit for the purchase of any principle residence and would have encouraged lenders to modify privately held mortgages, a provision that would have helped stem the number of foreclosures. Finally, S.Amdt. 353 would have put in place a number of critical tax incentives, aimed at creating jobs and spurring small business investment. Unfortunately, S.Amdt. 353 was not included in the final version of P.L. 111–5.
Furthermore, excessive taxation hinders job creation for small businesses and overburdens taxpayers during difficult economic times. According to the Tax Foundation, taxpayers worked almost four months last year to pay for government operations. This is more than what they worked to pay for food, clothing and housing combined. As such, I offered an amendment to P.L. 111–5 that would have lowered the 10 percent tax bracket to 5 percent. This proposal would have provided tax relief to every Texan who pays the federal income tax. Hard-working Texans deserve to keep more of their own money to spend, save, and invest how they see fit. Although the Senate failed to adopt my amendment, I will continue working to provide broad-based tax relief to all Americans.
Finally, I understand the frustration of American taxpayers regarding Congress' inability to restrain spending—the primary factor contributing to the budget deficit and our national debt. Like you, I am concerned about the long term effects of excessive government spending, often on wasteful, ineffective government programs. In an effort to be a better steward of tax dollars, Congress must eliminate government waste and fraud and restrain runaway spending. Although P.L. 111–5 included some meritorious funding initiatives, I believe that any programmatic funding should be openly debated during the annual appropriations process. While I am not a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which has primary jurisdiction over the annual appropriations bills that allocate federal spending, I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that all Texans are well served.

Who Knew?

Today is Washington's real birthday. I began the following diatribe as an answer to a comment elsewhere. The longer I worked on it, the more worked up and pissed off I became. Finally I decided the jerk I wrote it for wasn't worthy of the effort. I hope the jerks here are worthy.

I'll be called a racist for my opinion, but I think the "Presidents Day" idea is a bad idea.
It KILLED the names of possibly the two best American Presidents. They share a day, with no names mentioned, but MARTIN LUTHER KING, gets a day to himself, with his name in tact, right out front.
Hey, American history re-writers, if Washington had lost the Revolutionary War, King wouldn't BE King. If Washington had won the Revolutionary War, but Lincoln had lost the Civil War, or hadn't freed the slaves, King wouldn't BE King. That aside, there are many people, both black and white, who fought for equal rights, before King, so that he could BE King. We should be honoring King, I truly believe that. But not at the expense of remembering by name two other great and important Americans.
Yes King was a great leader, but he was the focal point at that time, he was NOT the entire movement. He became the face of the fight for equal rights. That said, we should remember ALL the people who fought for equality of the races, not just King. Perhaps we should have had IMHO, a Civil Rights Awareness Day. On that day, make it a point of speaking of all these heroes, not just King.
Because of moves like bundling Lincoln and Washington, we're losing, or may have already lost, our national identity, and heritage. Simply because the guys who we honored were white? No, but how many people under 25 know WHO the Presidents are, that get honored on "Presidents Day"? You’d have to be pretty dense to miss just who MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY was honoring.
What happened to Columbus Day? It’s completely gone. Except for that Native American guy who goes to claim Verona or Venice in the name of Indigenous Americans!! He pops up every few years. Columbus gets lost in that shuffle.
When did you last hear anything positive about Veteran's Day? Last Veterans Day, I heard one story about WWI, and a dozen about Viet Nam, PTSD, Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. Most of us who served, including minorities, did so honorably and without being harmed or harming any of the innocent people of the world.
Don’t even mention Flag Day. Why have a day, to honor a flag, with a stupid pledge that includes the word G-O-D? Isn’t he white? We're not really sure, but some of the flag's stripes are white.
We still get Thanksgiving and Christmas. But if we didn't the economy of the country would be worse than it already is. Killing Thanksgiving means no Black Friday. But wait, that Friday is black, does that make it doubly good? Relax, it’s a joke. If Tracy Morgan or Chris Rock had said that you’d be howling.
Christmas is about gifts and trees. It’s no longer about, or tied to, our Judeo-Christian background. We aren’t a nation divined by or endowed with basic rights from a supreme being. Christmas by Intelligent Design sounds fairly hollow. Jesus, who was "white" remember, has been removed from Christmas. We are One Nation Under Visa, Master Card, iPhone, Guitar Hero and Celtics vs Lakers on NBC!!
Mangers have been proven, by the ACLU, to be just too divisive.
I don't begrudge King his day, I don't begrudge the African-American community his, and their, gains. But his gains were everyone’s gains. He fought for minority rights, not just Negro rights. Do we ever hear that? When do we get Caesar Chavez Day, to cover the freedom fights for Mexican-Americans? And what do we shove out of the way for Chavez Day, to keep the “correct” number of Federal and Bank Holidays? I just don't see how pushing Washington and Lincoln into some nameless, faceless semi-celebration, raises all of us up as Equal Americans.
And THAT was Kings life work remember.

Roger Goodell, I think, is going to fold over like a paper sheep, in a kid's bed time pop-up book on Vick's return to the grid iron. He'll say Vick has done his time, he's said he was sorry and the National Geographic Channel is showing his dogs getting retrained going to good homes.

We as sports fans, and law abiding citizens, need to boycot teams that hire and pay MILLIONS of dollars to these miscreants. Send them an e-mail, or better still snail mail by the bagful, telling them they are anathema to us if they hire these thugs. Vick, and the other gun toting, "scrip club" attending thuggery, had their chance and blew it through excess. That should negate his chance to play, and our problem of having his excesses rubbed in our collective face.

There are 1200 NCAA schools, most of whom have a football program. That means on any given Sunday, there are hundreds of college football quarterbacks who just missed out on the draft last year. Hundreds of linemen, centers, running backs, tight ends and pass defenders who are ready to play to replace these criminals. They were just outside being good enough to make the team. I say sweep the scum off the top of the team rosters, and let these guys rise up to fill those slots. I've said this to friends who say the talent doesn't exist to replace them.

There are 1200 NCAA schools, most of whom have a football program. That means on any given Sunday, there are hundreds of college football quarterbacks who just missed out on the draft last year. Hundreds of linemen, centers, running backs, tight ends and pass defenders who are ready to play to replace these criminals. They were just outside being good enough to make the team. I say sweep the scum off the top of the team rosters, and let these guys rise up to fill those slots. I've said this to friends who say the talent doesn't exist to replace them.

FAIRBANKS -- A Second Amendment rights group in Fairbanks is encouraging members to bring their guns out into the open.
Schaeffer Cox with the group Second Amendment Task Force is urging everyone to wear their guns during open-carry days this weekend and next. He expects about 500 people to participate.
"There's a social stigma that only cops and robbers have guns," Cox told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. "The truth is everybody is packing but nobody knows it because we keep it concealed."
Fairbanks Police Chief Dan Hoffman doesn't oppose the show of arms.
"There's no law that prohibits a citizen in the state of Alaska from carrying an open, legal firearm," Hoffman said. "It's perfectly legal."
Hoffman believes this is in reaction to the election of President Barack Obama, a Democrat.

The Price Of Poker Is Going Up
As we Poker players say when the game really starts to get serious, "the price of Poker is going up", meaning, if you don't have the stomach for what's coming, fold now.
It's now pretty clear, even to the brain-dead weaklings in our govt. and at the UN, that Iran is about one breath away from having The Bomb. (assuming they don't already have it) After years of using lies, distractions, and subterfuge, and playing for time by making fools of the US, the UN, and just about everyone else, Iran seems ready to rock! But fear not. We have Hitlary Clinton out there talking the talk and keeping us safe. (OY!)
Will they attack Israel or the US? IMO no. They're crazy, but they're not stupid. In order to keep his hands clean-looking, Iran's president Igotmypajamason will, IMO, do something better. He'll simply give or sell the technology to every terrorist group in the world. Part of the price for that technology could be that terrorists acknowledge Iran as their real leader and will hit targets that Iran wants hit. Well, for starters anyway. It's the old war by proxy tactic made famous by Russia and the ChiComs. Iran, knowing they have nothing to fear from the gutless dolts in the US and the UN, will of course continue to play for time while the technology is spread around. The "wild card" here is Israel. Will the US be able to continue keeping Israel handcuffed? Iran may be counting on that, since it's worked so well in the past. Pull-up a chair and stand by. It's been a long time since i've seen semi-violent, student protests here in the International Public Toilet. (a.k.a. NYC ) In fact, not since the anti-Viet Nam war riots of the late 60's and early 70's, have i seen so many worthless, young losers take over a building in protest! It seems some of the young, wealthy, elitists who attend New York University decided to take-over it's main building. What are they protesting? Well, they say they want more transparency in the University's financial reporting. (Huh?) Oh, they're also demanding "free tuition for all Palestinians being oppressed in Gaza"! Did you actually think it was about the school's finances? (LOL)
NYU, like Columbia, is home to, and produces many of NYC's anarchists, Marxists, and communists. I watched some of these young nitwits on this mornings news, wearing their Yassar Arafat (sp.) scarves, and flying the Palestinian flag, making their demands. Back in day when i was a young lad in the NYPD and was sent to the anti-war "protests", (they were in fact riots) those demands would've been made while en route to the nearest emergency room. No Palestinian scarf, just bandages. But today, in the new Amerika, i'm sure they'll get whatever they demand, and more...
