Bill-o-DUDE!

Nice shirt - but I gotta say mine looked better on C-dash-Bug. 'Course - that's from a purely heterosexual point of view.

Maybe if you showed a little leg...

And how do we know you were REALLY in Costa Rica, huh? Now, if you were photographed on the beach with a few of those little Crichton-type 'Lost World' dinosaurs chewing on your shin...

Welcome back to the cyber-world, dude.

Rights Under Fire

A new Bill proposed in the Illinois State House would amend the state’s current firearms code to require gun owners to carry insurance of $1 Million. It would also make gun owners liable for misuse of their guns unless the gun is reported stolen to police.

Anon - I say... Shoot the sponsor of that Bill!

This is what that bill in the Illinois General Assembly proposes:

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Effective January 1, 2010.

But, ther's some good news too.

SALEM, Ore. -- Sheriffs around Oregon have been sending an unusual letter to holders of concealed weapons permits with this message: If you don't want the public to know you've got a permit, we'll try to help you out.

The letter from the sheriffs says newspapers and others are trying to get lists of people who have concealed handgun permits, sparking a legal challenge that's pending in the Oregon Court of Appeals.

And as the appeals court mulls the issue, Oregon lawmakers are pursuing legislation to take those records completely out of public view by prohibiting their release under the Oregon public records law.

Nerd -

IMO - your post points out the need to purchase fireams LEGALLY through private exchange.

I own "several" firearms of various configurations and caliber.

While "several" were purchased retail and required registration (checking NO in the "are you crazy" box), "several" were bought through the classified ads in the newspaper - perfectly legal in Texas. "Several" others are hand-me-downs and gifts. The only one's I feel obligated to declare, (should the time come), are the one's purchased retail. The others are none of the f*cking government's business. I purchased them privately and legally, they will remain private.

That's the entire problem with "legal gun ownership" in the new, revised, sense of the words. 'The government knows.'

IMO - It's none of the governments f*cking business. It's a private matter. When the government "knows" - it's no longer the 2nd Amendment.

Nerd,
although I disagree with REQUIRED insurance for guns, it's pretty cheap for that million. If it became a law, companies would sell even more "event" insurance and drive the price down.

When I was doing my kettle korn concession full time, my $1 million policy was less than $200 for a year. That's less than a buck per day. Many of the gun nuts I know shoot more ammo than that every year.

It is undoubtedly a move by anti-gun zealots to go around the corner after the guns. But I've seriously been thinking about doing this on my own as a safety valve in case I use my pistol in public.

Jimbo, here in NY, you can't "legally" purchase (or even accept) a firearm privately. All transactions "must" go through a FFL dealer, with a background check, and of course, be registered. Total gun registration has been the rule here for a long time.

I'm not sure if that article from IL. is the same one, but if you want to see something really nuts, check-out "HR-45". It's a bill introduced by an IL. congressman named Bobby Rush. It all but outlaws guns! BTW, Bobby Rush is an ex-con and former (?) member of the Black Panthers.

It's starting quietly, and mostly taking place behind the scenes, (so far) but the assault on the 2nd Amendment is under way and building steam.

Blue,

Make sure you listed carefully! I was charged with DV because the cops were too lazy to do any investigation. Its a serious offence! Once you are convicted you can never again posses a firearm for any reason.

I was lucky and had the case dropped because the DA knew he didn't have a case and I was going to sue the PD.
