Cops ID Man Dragged by Car for 20 Miles

NEW YORK — The man who was struck by a car, trapped under a van and dragged for nearly 20 miles through New York City streets was identified Thursday as an Ecuadorean immigrant who had turned 26 the day before he was killed.

Guido Salvador Carabajo-Jara was crossing a busy street near his home in Queens when he was hit by an SUV, then impaled by a steel plate on the undercarriage of a van. The body wasn't discovered until the second driver arrived in Brooklyn about an hour later.

Police identified the victim after investigators spent nearly a day trying to identify the body, which was found largely intact but horribly battered. The man's heels were shorn off, and his clothes and several layers of skin on his legs and buttocks were worn off.

No identification was found, only a business card, Western Union receipt and broken iPhone. The body was identified by a cousin, said Paul Browne, NYPD deputy commissioner for public information. An autopsy was being performed Thursday to try and determine when the man died. [DUH! I can tell you that - I don't need no stinking autopsy!]

Police said the gruesome episode was accidental and they have no plans to charge the drivers at this time. Both men have clean driving records.

Details emerged Thursday about the victim, who was apparently unmarried and shared an apartment with his cousin and sister, who was making funeral arrangements. Their mother lives in Ecuador, police said.

Okay – start here and tell me what the rest of the story has to do with the deceased’s accidental death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A relative, Ignacio Quintero, said Carabajo-Jara had a 4-year-old daughter in Ecuador and faithfully sent money back to his family there to care for the girl. He described Carabajo-Jara as a harde agent who was walking arm in arm with his brother was beaten to death in an apparent hate crime by assailants who shouted anti-Hispanic and anti-gay slurs. [This sentence makes no sense, but this is where they change the subject from an accident to hate crimes - but they HAD to do it somehow, huh?]
The killing of Jose Oswaldo Sucuzhanay followed the death of Marcelo Lucero, 37, an Ecuadorean immigrant who was fatally stabbed Nov. 8 by a group of teenagers on Long Island, New York.
Prosecutors said seven teenagers charged in Lucero's assault had set out to attack a Hispanic person. All seven have pleaded not guilty to hate crime and other charges in the killing.
Lucero's death has attracted international attention and prompted a U.S. Justice Department investigation of area hate crimes.
~~~~~~~~~~~
If it's important to the Associated Press to point out that the poor guy was an immigrant, shouldn't it have been pointed out if he was a legal immigrant (or not)? Where did all of the "hate crimes" crap work its way into the story? It's admittedly poorly written (grammar, spelling, etc.) - but give me a break! This is why "news" agencies are going broke and begging for liberal government handouts that conservatives pay for. If they want to make a human interest story out of the guys death, that's up to them - but don't attempt to mix it with what is supposed to be actual "news". Especially in such a way as to purposefully lead silly liberals into thinking any death of an immigrant is a hate crime.

I'm still not sure how you could run over someone and NOT know it.

But you make a good point, they had to get the "poor immigrants" in there, not leaving out the hate crime aspect of it. How come it's never a hate crime when a minority person attacks some whitey?

With NYC's streets in the condition they're in, (holes, ruts, craters, etc.) you probably wouldn't notice somebody stuck under your car. Hell, you probably wouldn't notice if you ran over an elephant! Besides, NYC drivers are totally oblivious to everything around them. They tend to drive as though there's no one else on the planet.

Why not mention the fact that he was an illegal? And why the hate-crime angle? $$$$$$$$$!! It's for the coming lawsuit!

Anon, I don't suffer from paraskavedekatriaphobia. Nothing bad has ever happened to me on Friday the 13th.

You know, I believe I would have realized that I had run over someone, especially if I had then dragged the body for 20 miles in city traffic!

...determine when the man died

Oh, about the 9th or 10th mile, give or take.

Not in this place, where everybody is deaf, dumb, and blind, unless they can make a quick buck!
