The ACORN Nuts

Arrest Made in Home Foreclosure Civil Disobedience Program

Police in Baltimore today made what is believed to be the first arrest in a civil disobedience program aimed at supporting homeowners who refuse to vacate their foreclosed homes.
An activist with ACORN — the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now — faces criminal charges after breaking into a home in southeast Baltimore on Thursday to protest the foreclosure crisis sweeping the country.

"This program is saying, 'We are not going,'" Cox said last week. "People say we're breaking the law, but we don't see how putting a person back in an abandoned property is harming anyone."

They "say" you're breaking the law? How about you ARE breaking the law. Civil disobedience is a worthy statement when we're talking about Rosa Parks. I'm not so into it when we're talking about people that took on mortgages they knew they couldn't afford and now are crying about it. Notice how the woman who used to live in this house can't pay her mortgage any more, but there is not mention of a lost job or change of circumstances. Hmmm.

I think Civil Disobedience in defense of your own home may be a good thing, but these ACORN people are squatters and trespassers.

But if I'm not mistaken Ghandi said civil disobedience was too fill the jails and over tax the legal system into realizing that the people protesting mattered and should have a voice. It worked for India, it worked for African-Americans, but I don't think disgruntled foreclosees are a downtrodden, put upon minority, held under the thumb of "The Man". And although their cause is admirable, their rallying song,

"Hey, hey, BofA,
gimme my house back"

has quite the ring of "We shall Over Come".

I feel for these people, I had a foreclosure, but you survive it. Nobody from the gub'ment offered bail outs for companies or out of work people when the Dot Com Bubble burst. Why is this different.

Steve -

Just to avoid any misunderstandings, I DO NOT lump you in with the people who willingly took on too much debt. You ended up in a crappy situation and had debt heaped upon you. If I had known you at the time, I would have felt sorry for you. I don't feel sorry for most of these forclosure "victims".

Schteveo said...

Uh Heidi, I'm not sure why you said that, but thanks.

I never felt like a "victim", it was just the hand we were dealt. It pisses me off that we had to start over, but waddya gonna do?

I hate to be an opportunist, but this situation is helping us. Home and land prices are down, mortgage rates are 2 or 3 points below our old rate and I'm looking at foreclosures that are cheaper than what we paid for a house in 1998.

I guess my turd of a life finally floated to the top of the universal septic tank.

Head on over to http://www.michellemalkin.com/ and you will find that she has "the rest of the story" on this "poster child" for ACORN's ILLEGAL "civil disobedience" bovine excrement.

The woman bought a home for around 87k, refinanced for 270k, just WHERE did the "equity" she "skimmed" go? And she had 2 years to try to catch up her arrears.

She is an idiot and a thief and a dumb bitch worthy of no sympathy.

I said I wasn't lumping you in with the "victims". And I just don't want you mad at me. I don't think I could take it.

Heidi,
I just realized that this is your article, that 'splains the apology. No offense was taken, I don't consider myself part of the current bust, so no harm, no foul.

HJR,
longtime no see, welcome home.

How in the hell do you get that much money for her little condo? I, like HJR, want to know where the equity difference went. If she'd never paid any on the original principal, $87,000, the re-fi would have put over $150,000 in her hand, in cash, by my dead reckoning skills.

She must have donated the money to ACORN.

This is typical leftist loon crap ola'. I'd ignore it, but they're raping my grandkids!!!

A very good tactic to slow down the foreclosure process is to demand that the mortgagee produce a valid loan contract with the borrrower's signature to prove that they are the legal lienholder. In many cases, these loans have been packaged, re-packaged and sold to different servicers so many times that the original loan documents have been lost or destroyed.

Now, that's civil disobedience!

But, she's too big to fail!

el nerdly one,
I heard a talking head on FOX say just that this morning. He said it would add 5 or 6 months to the average time for you to get straight with payments. He said that he knew of one case where the people stayed in their house almost 2 years while dueling mortgage bundlers hunted for who owned the mortgage. By which time the homeowner was back at work and re-fi'ing out of their hands at a lower rate.

IMO, Acorn is perhaps building a foundation for some kind of national movement of non-payers, mostly the so-called poor. They know very well they've got a strong ally in president Yobama, so they're not at all worried about legal action. In fact, it seems as if they're trying to force a leagl confrontation. I wonder how much "advice" they're getting from the back rooms of the WH. They've also got a few hundred million of your money coming from the new welfare bill. Ooops, i mean bailout bill. Much of that money will help them line-up more fake votes for 2012.

'Five Surgeons'

Five surgeons from big cities are discussing who makes the best Patients to operate on.

The first surgeon, from New York, says, 'I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.'

The second, from Chicago, responds, 'Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.'

The third surgeon, from Dallas, says, 'No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order.'

The fourth surgeon, from Los Angeles chimes in: 'You know, I like construction workers...those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over.'

But the fifth surgeon, from Washington, DC shut them all up when he observed: 'You're all wrong. Liberals are the easiest to operate on. There are no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are completely interchangeable!

"Grammie" or whatever name he wants to call me!! said...

So HLF's head and ass are completely interchangeable? Brings a whole new meaning to the name Butthead.

Hey, Steve,

It's such a simple tactic, but most people who are under pressure from their mortgage company don't think to ask them to produce a signed loan agreement. They just assume that the mortgagee has it. I'm really glad to hear that Fox is spreading the word.

Nerd,

Technology is making this a little easier. I'm currently sitting in a large warehouse full of loan/title/escrow/ect documents from all over the country. Millions of them. They are all indexed and can be pulled, scanned and emailed to the requestor in 15 minutes. Once the are scanned they can be retreived even faster. In most states digital images are legal, they don't have to be original copies.

That's true. Some courts will accept an electronic record and some will not.

AK,
that's extreme foresight on someone's part. The talking head on FOX said some mortgages have been sold, rebundled, resold, so many times and because of the banks merging, there are mortgages out there that will NEVER have to be paid once this search starts. He did suggest putting the mortgage payments aside if or until they find the paperwork.
