This story seems to ignore the implications of this program...

Is it that they HAVE to work for the city? I re-read it, that's not the way this reads to me.

Or do you have issue with property taxes all together? That's what gets under my skin. Paying repeatedly for crap I already own.

yes schetevo is voluntary but property taxes arent... the fact is that if they dont pay they don't stay but instead of the government giving people on hard times a break in terms of not making them pay they are just giving them a chance to "work off their taxes" which is a SCARY phrase.

I'll agree, but as Devil's Advocate, how do they decide who should pay, and who shouldn't in hard times? And who defines hard times?

Personally I think we need to revisit taxing property, or at a minimum the rates. But ultimately, we need to revisit the way the elected worms spend our money. The bastards.

I wonder if this scam applies to the so-called "poor", the folks gettin all that free govt. cheese. I'm assuming it doesn't, since i haven't seen any riots, looting, and burning, in the Peoples Republic of Main.

As i've said before, there seems to be no limit to the amount of abuse the voters will take, something the lying crooks in DC are very well aware of.

Spidey,
all great points, too bad so many Americans don't know them, never heard of them or outright disagree with them.

(15:30 EDT, what timing, there's a movie running on TCM right now, Glenn Ford opens a door in a school and someone was reciting the Preamble to the Constitution)
