I mistakenly THOUGHT we'd be able to make a distinction between Jews trying get the British to leave Israel / Palestine, an act of revolution inside their own country. (as I recall we did the same stuff to King George) And the actions of Islamofascists blowing up stuff ALL OVER THE WORLD, in war like attacks, aimed at building a worldwide Islamic Caliphate.

The Israelis haven't killed any Americans on purpose since June 8, 1967.
The Jews have blown a lot of people up. In fact, I'll wager that they've blown up more Palestinians, Jordanians, Lebanonians (yeah I know, that was added for humor, get over it) and so on than all the rest have blown THEM up, COMBINED.
The difference?
Jews do it as an act of self-defense subsequent to a hostile action against them, and they at least give the APPEARANCE of ttrying to minimize civilian casualties, even though that is an impossible (and probably undesirable) task for them to accomplish.
The opposition does it as an act of war and terror, and purposely and willfully target civilians in order to make a bigger impact.
So the argument "who have Jews blown up?" is actually quite easy to answer, even if you leave out the whole "jewish war of independence against the Brits" part previously mentioned.
And Abu, I'd be interested in what compelling evidence you have that Israel purposely attacked the US Liberty, other than the typical "They should have known" BS. It's called the FOG OF WAR for a reason. People get shot by the wrong side all the damn time. Targets of opportunity present, you take the initiative and take them, and then afterword you find out you screwed the pooch.
It was horrible, but from everything I can figure out from the time, it was, in the end, a mistake. A horrible mistake, but a mistake, nonetheless. People sometimes have a hard time chocking tradgedies up to an "Oops" because they really, really want a villian. They struggle with the fact that there isn't a villian - no one to hate or despise - just a dumbass 21 year old Israeli fighter pilot who screwed the pooch.
Read the accounts from the surviving crew members Goob. Either the Israeli military was full fo really stupid people in 1967, or it was done on purpose.
I have read the accounts, Abu. There isn't anything in there that would lead me to believe anything other than the following:
At one point in time on June 7th and early June 8th the Israeli central command knew that the ship in that location was the Liberty. They removed the indicator for her after the location information For her became stale, and failed to pass that info on to the next shift at central command (mistake number 1). Then, when reports that Israeli forces had come under barrage from a warship off the Egyptian coast, they re-acquired the Liberty and the commander in Egypt – NOT central command – gave an order to attack (the commander in Egypt had no way of knowing that an American warship was in the area). Tired, worn-out fighter pilots (who had been flying non-stop sorties for almost 24 hours at that point) flew to the location of the ship, didn’t bother to identify because they’d already been told that she was Egyptian and to eliminate her, and blasted her. Torpedo boats then came on the scene, and amidst the smoke coming off of the Liberty by now, and the fact that the flag that she had had been destroyed in the first barrage, they tried to contact her. The response was not very pleasing – the Liberty sent back a “general call” message and then fired on them.
So, you get shot at by a boat that refuses to identify herself, which is basically what happened*. What do you do?

The fact is, it has been spun that the Israelis knew more than they did. In fact, they knew a lot, and in fact, they even knew enough to know that this ship was the Liberty, but no SINGLE ONE of them involved in the attack had the full story, and the guy that ordered the attack had no idea that an American ship was in the area, he only knew that he was under barrage from what he assumed was an Egyptian warhip off the coast.
That being said, I wonder if you’ve ever read that in that same day, almost that same hour, Israeli jets attacked an Israeli column, IIRC in the Golan Heights, but I could be wrong, and killed a bunch of their own people? So, you argue that they can strafe and blast their own people, and that is understandable “fog of war” but to accidentally strafe and blast a warship that was in an area that is was not supposed to be in**, and in the general location where Israeli troops had fallen under naval barrage, is totally unbelievable?
As it were, as much as I respect the men involved on our side, I’m not sure that their testimony of what the Israelis “should have known” is really going to sway me one way or the other. They were stuck in bad situation, but I think that to have them determine what the intent of the people attacking them was is to consider a bit of a biased source, don’t you think? Their comrades in arms died that day, and I don’t think many of them are ready to chock such a tragedy up to and accident. They want a villain, and rightly so! However, I am not convinced that one exists in this particular case.
*General Call, or AA, in morse code, is basically ship talk for “Who are you?” When you are in a gun fight with someone, you are trying to figure out who they are, and you ask “Who are you?” and the response is “Who are YOU?” and then they start shooting at you? I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out that you’d better shoot back
**The standing order was that warships were to stay 100 nautical miles away from the shorelines of any belligerent nation. The Liberty was only 12 miles away. The agreement between the US and Israel was that if the US put a ship in the area, that the US would inform Israel as such. No notification was given. So, she was 88 miles closer in than she should have been, without giving notice to the Israelis that she was there, at all, and I am supposed to suspend belief that she got strafed and bombed?

I don't recall ever having claimed that Israel was perfect. I've never said that about America, either, but I still love theidea of America and what she stands for. We've both done bad things with good intentions, and even bad things with the intention of doing exactly that, but you must be careful to not let a small amount of bad overwhelm a large amount of good.
I don't think that the Israelis have evil intentions, I think that they are doing the best they can in a shitty situation, and in a situation that requires them to be bastards sometimes. BUt when you strip away all the other bullshit, and you merely look at intentions, it is very simple:
If the Palestinians laid down their weapons today, and never picked them back up again, forever, there would be peace in the holy land for exactly that long.
If the Jews laid down their weapons tomorrow, and never picked them up again, there would be a second holocaust.
It is that simple, and until you realize that, you will never understand why the Israelis appear to be such bastards - they fight not for land or ideas or ideaologies, BUT FOR THEIR VERY SURVIVAL!
I will never understand how a nation of five million, surrounded on all sides by hostiles numbering over 75 million, has been portrayed as the bully. They are outnumbered by a factor of well over ten to one, yet people still see them as the aggressor and the bully, when they've almost never acted for any other purpsoe than in retaliation and self defense.

I'm an avid Israel supporter. I am likewise and also a big US supporter. However, I don't completely believe the reports of EITHER side in this action. There are too many "official" reports out there. Reports that go against the memories of the crew.
Somewhere, ONE person, someone with some horsepower in the IDF, knowingly had the Liberty attacked. You can't unring a bell, once the order was given soldiers, sailors and airmen followed their orders. Beyond that one moron, everyone else's actions seem to follow military protocol. It suck's but it happened.
I do NOT think this was a planned attack by the IDF, or it's overseers. What would the payoff be for them? Or Israel as a nation?
NOW, beyond those deaths, and the deaths Israelis caused fighting for freedom, WHO DID THE JEWS BLOW UP??!!!
I don't know of any single case where Israeli or Jewish terrorists committed crimes akin to 9/11, Lockerbie, the US Embassies in Africa, etc, etc, etc. And certainly non to further Judaism throughout the world as the TRUE RELIGION.

The Israelis did not plan to go out and commit a terrorist attack. It was unfortunate colateral damage during the fog of battle.
Terrorists plan to attack civilians as well military targets with no "human" feeling for what they do.

Hell yes, I can. Running bulldozers over civilians was probably a bad move. They did too much of that, and only stopped when an American was in one of the bunches that got run over.
I cant think of any justification for smashing someone with a bulldozer, even if they refuse to move from in front of it. That reminded me way too much of tianemmen (sp?) square, and I was very much pissed off at them for doing it, and for what?
I cannot imagine our nation bulldozing illegal immigrant housing with the immigrants still inside, and I'd be pissed if they did so. If they are illegal squatters, arrest them for that, then bulldoze the tenements they've built and build anew. But arrest them, first, for chrissakes, don't just run them over when they won't get out of the way!!!
Also, the use of white phosphorous in a campaign where civilians were everywhere was also a really piss-poor choice and, in my humble opinion, a willful targeting of civilian targets, (which, while back in the days of "total war" that was okay, it most certainly is not, now) because white phosphorous is an indiscriminant firebomb. YOu start the fire, you can't control it, and it burns down schools with kids still inthem. That is bullshit. White phosphorous was a bad choice, and a willful bad choice, which runs right up the flagpole of "wrong and brutal."
But I won't allow a bit of piss in a river to cause me to condemn the entire rivier as polluted. On the whole, Israel is more good than bad, and when compared to their opponents, they are frigging ANGELS.
