Hmmmm... What does Virginia have on Obama?

Obama backs drilling in Atlantic

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama announced on Wednesday he will stick with a Bush-era plan to drill oil and natural gas off the coast of Virginia but will not pursue energy development in waters off the U.S. Northeast and the West Coast that were recently opened to drilling.

Obama, who wants Congress to move a stalled climate change bill, has sought to reach out to Republicans by signaling he is open to allowing offshore drilling, providing coastlines are protected.

Why not the Northeast and West Coast? Did he screw Virginia and she's threatening to expose him? And if he wants to "move" the climate bill, (I have some Exlax that should help), why does he need the Republicans to get on board? He can pass it like he did health care... without any votes. And isn't "allowing offshore drilling" and "providing coastlines are protected" an oxymoron in Democrats eyes or is Virginia's coastline not worth protecting? Just askin'.

When you read the details, he is giving permission to drill, AFTER

1. Exploration finds the oil, AFTER
2. Environmentals approve the exploration techniques (acoustic).

SO -- at best, drill will absoulutely think about starting in 5 or 6 years.

Of course, GWB started this in 2004.

Now -- what bill will this be attached to? cap & trade?

Not gonna happen, he'll set the EPA against this, then say "they" won't "let" him drill.

He's an idiot.

However, this is just another thing that the libs can say he did wrong.

Anon,
the oil companies know where the oil is out there. They've known for 2 decades. It's a matter of getting "permission".

Of course they know. But the "plan" requires knowing better...

Basically, say yes without actually authorizing anything.

The first place we should drill is between FL & Cuba. Suck that well dry before the Chinese/Cubans take it all.

Sure Odumbo said it's ok to drill in those places. Actually, he said "explore" not drill. According to oil industry experts, the process, (exploration, plans, court fights with EnviroNazi's, construction, etc.) could take as long as 15-20 years before we see any gas coming from these areas, assuming we ever do.

Odumbo knew this when he made that phony statement. In fact, it was nothing more than a campaign promise. He's creating the illusion that he's moving to the center, assuming anyone is stupid enough to believe that. It's also a way to get some of the gutless, brainless Republicans to agree with something he's doing. Sen. Mitch McConnel (sp) already put out a statement today saying it "was a good first step". Then he went back to sleep.

Obama is a GD lying idiot who believes if he says stuff that the right wants to hear, they will somehow believe he is a little brown gawd just like brain-dead liberals do.

Obama can kiss my lily-white ass.

(But if he french-kisses it - it will be the last shit he ever tastes.)

Pay No Attention to the Administration Behind the Screen

"The Wall Street Journal sees the Obama administration's drilling announcement for what it is: a head fake. Even as the president speaks to the center of the energy debate, his administration is dawdling on the left:

Congress's ban on offshore drilling expired in September 2008, and a Bush Administration plan for leasing the energy-rich Outer Continental Shelf was due to begin this year. Yet within a month of taking office, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar halted leasing by extending the public comment period by six months. When that period ended last September, Interior said it would take "several weeks" to analyze the results. It has yet to release a summary.

Newt Gingrich's American Solutions group used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain Interior emails suggesting that the public comments ran 2-to-1 in favor of drilling. Instead of acknowledging this, Mr. Salazar last week informed Congress he was scrapping the Bush plan and that leasing will not begin for at least another two years.

The Administration failed to meet a deadline last month for submitting a court-ordered analysis of the environmental impact of new leases off the Alaskan coast. And in January, Mr. Salazar rebuffed Virginia's request — endorsed by its governor and legislature — to allow drilling offshore. Sensing a pattern?

Onshore, meanwhile, Interior canceled oil and gas leases on 77 parcels of federal land in Utah (a handful have since been reinstated). Mr. Salazar also yanked eight parcels from a lease sale in Wyoming. Several weeks ago a leaked Interior Department memo disclosed plans to have Mr. Obama use executive power — under the Antiquities Act — to designate 10 million acres of western land as "monuments," putting them off-limits to energy development as well as current timber or mining work." --- NRO

Who gives a rat's ass about the red states' coasts? Let them eat oil and lose their best real estate to spills.

Maybe they'll all get cancer and do the world a favor.
