Some 700 million people worldwide, or more than all the adults of North and South America combined, think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and want to permanently move to another country, a poll showed Tuesday.
Residents of sub-Saharan African countries were the most likely to want to move abroad permanently, the polls conducted in 135 countries between 2007 and this year by Gallup showed.
On average, 38 percent of the adult population in sub-Saharan Africa, or around 165 million people, said they would up stakes and head for another country if they had the chance.
The most popular destination was the United States, where nearly a quarter of the 700 million -- around 165 million people -- said they would like to settle.
In joint second were Britain, Canada and France, each being named as the preferred destination of around 45 million people.
Thirty-five million said they would go to Spain, 30 million to Saudi Arabia, and 25 million each to Australia or Germany.

I'm guessing that 30 million people who want to go to Saudi, are already Muslims. Otherwise I don't get the draw.

Those numbers just prove that we're the biggest suckers around, followed by the other socialist, bleeding-heart countries of the EU. People will naturally go where they get the most free handouts, and that's US!

For the first time here, after, what, 3 years, I'm surprised at the answers. I've seen stuff I openly disagreed with, we've argued, we've had sides drawn over issues.
But this one shocks me.
Foreigners should not seek to come here, because the just want my money.

They come here for a "better life"? Sure. But to most people around the world, that means an "easier" life, because that's what the world thinks we have here. And compared to many, we do, but it's because we (most of us) busted our asses and earned it! Or, maybe it's the "freedom" they come for. But freedom to do what, things that they'd get jailed or shot for doing in their own countries? Sure, they have lots more freedom here to do whatever it is they want to do, but it comes at a high price. Our freedom!
And i made no mention of who or what makes a good American. There are plenty of foreigners who come here (legally) who make better Americans than many of the natural-born that i've seen.
That America is known as a welfare state is not some catchy phrase made-up by conservatives. It's a fact, and one that has not gone unnoticed around the world.

But that's not the impression you gave before. You said people will go where the free handouts are.
I live in a high immigrants level town. Most of the ones I see here, are working class folks. Actually, since the construction downturn, we've lost a great number of them. They didn't stick around for free cheese. My two buddies that left the bldg, left here for JOBS, in Ohio.
We are too damned free with "government money", ut the "countries" of the world that get it, don't spread it among the populace marked, "freely given by the taxpayers in the USA". So I'm doubting the people from "X" are coming here for free anything.
Easier I buy. It's bound to be easier to work here for the available wages, benefits and take that to the Big Bear, Ralph's or Super Wal-Mart, than it is to do whatever job, for whatever money, anywhere else just about.
We bitch about our taxes, but they're still lower than most of the world. We bitch about "the government", but few of us have friends or family that the government has abused, tortured or imprisoned, to protect El Presidente, or whoever is in charge. We have supply and demand problems, but when did you ever see "X" product, UNAVAILABLE in our country?
That's the kind of thing people come here for in my experience. Not free cheese.
And the fact that MS13 put out a hit in the FBI proves nothing about immigrants except that some of the are criminals. I guess it's a good thing ONLY Salvadorans have organized crime groups.
I agree that we give too much to other countries. But I disbelieve that it's THE draw for people coming here.
I'm not sure what impression you got. I'm not against people coming here legally, and adding to (not taking away from) this country. Maybe it's because we live in such different places. Here, almost everybody with an accent (illegals) has their hand out, and getting it filled. They contribute nothing to this country, only to themselves and their home countries.
I'm also not saying we have it so bad. Most other countries have it far worse, but that's their problem, not mine. I don't want them coming here and turning my country into their 3rd world countries. "My" govt. is doing a fine job of that on it's own.
As for gangs like MS-13, that simply proves my point, that we're weak suckers, else they wouldn't be here. They are "the largest, most violent, and most wide-spread criminal group in this country". And guess what? Most of them are getting some govt. free cheese every month. That's a documented fact!

It seemed to me that you were saying that people who want to come here want free cheese and are unwilling to bust THEIR asses, like we do / did, to get what we have. We do live in different places you and I. But I get around, I've worked all over the country, and I saw the majority, WILLING to bust their asses.
Further, you live in a very liberal place where the richest guy in town, your Mayor, thinks the gub'ment should control everything and dole out what's available to everyone based on some formula only he controls. I'm NOT surprised that like minded people FLOCK to your city and state.

I'm not sure how escaping from "X" country to come here and be free, takes OUR freedom. Jose Juarez, Abdul Muhammad or Sing Patel, having free speech, HERE, that he didn't get at home, doesn't remove MY freedom of speech. The assholes who threaten our freedoms are the gangs, liberal nuts, non-assimilating enclavists, secret terrorists, etc who come here with an agenda of HARM for us and positions of superiority for them are a problem.

There are myriad polls around the world that say the USA sucks and should be destroyed. Mostly they come from N. Korea, Iran or the U.N. I don't see Gallup being that sloppy. And as anti-American as Gallup has been in the last 10 years, them saying the U.S. is still a "I want to move there" country, speaks volumes about how the PEOPLES of the world see our country.
Screw what the leaders of their countries think. Starting with our current nightmare of a CinC. He's a HARMful type IMnotsoHO.
