Apparently, some of the fuzzy-brained, crooked, political hacks in Chicago have reasoned that, if one of our totally unqualified, totally inexperienced, neighborhood agitators can become president of the US, why do our cops need to be qualified? And based on that "sound" reasoning, they've decided to do away with entrance exams for their Police Officers. In a city were dead people can vote, numerous times, why not!
Of course, the explanation used for this insanity is, as always, "diversity". Meaning? They want more unqualified blacks (and maybe illegals also?) carrying badges and guns (and authority) in Chi-town. Even NYC, with it's ever-growing diversity program isn't that nuts. While it's true that in recent years, the NYPD has lowered it's entrance standards to the point where they're almost non-existent in order to attract blacks, gays, midgets, 350 lb, 4' tall lesbians, foreigners, and God only knows what else, at least they've kept some of those standards.
Generally speaking, blacks usually don't do well on written exams. I'm not sure why that is, but it is, and everybody knows it. In many liberal cities, the local governments get around that fact by lowering their standards until blacks can easily pass. And in some cases, they are hired and promoted over Whites who are more qualified, or who have scored higher on exams. (remember the firefighters who had to go to the SCOTUS to get their promotions after passing their exams? ) Of course, in the end, it's the public that suffers. With the incredibly high taxes we pay, we have a right to expect the best people that can be found for our emergency services. Diversity accomplishes the exact opposite...

Uncle Fu, if you don't have to be smart to get in, the same rule would apply to get out. In other words, all you need do is show up. In education, it was called "social promotions". I know from past experience that there "used to be" many good, well-qualified, and highly dedicated people in the Chicago PD. But like the NYPD, that was "pre-PC".
Since the people of Chicago have apparently accepted having one of, if not the, most corrupt governments in the country, this shouldn't bother them at all.
P.S. and don't believe what you hear. Their pizza sucks compared to NYC's!

you're not missing anything, imagine NYC, but flat, no hills at all, ALL thick crust pizza cut in squares, the subway is above ground, and the water at Jones Beach would always be ice damned cold!! No colder than that, much colder.

Best pizza I ever ate, Coppola's Pizza, Pleasant Ave and 118th Street!! A thing of beauty. Best Italian Sausage w/ peppers and onions on hand made rolls, Feast of St. Anthony street festival, same neighborhood. If you want Italian food, you gotta go to NYC, plain and simple, no way around it.

BTW: Texas just lost the national championship. IMO is had everything to do with the QB's injury early in the game which knocked him out of the rest of it.

Uh, C-Bug, Chicago is already one of the most crime ridden places in the country. I live in Chicago and I do care about the cesspool this city has become, but it's difficult to vote out the people in power when they're the ones who get to count the votes.
