State Ownership of Children and Media Bias

This story is about a couple in New York who failed to get permission from the state to educate their own children and were therefore arrested. Furthermore if you watch the video in the article you can see how insanely biased the reporter is towards the schools owning the children.

But isn't the point of the school system to ensure that the parents follow the laws? Because it sure is NOT the teaching of children they're after.

Here's how good the schools / teachers are in CA, NC, and GA.

My eldest g'son has been, until this year, in school since he was 4. Pre-school, kindergarten, 1st through 4 grades. He is ADHD, he gets his meds daily and is miserable without them. I've been teaching him since September this year. It took me about two months, 8 weeks of school to realize that on top of the known problem, he has a severe memory problem. He quite literally can't retain stuff I know he knew well for even two weeks without drilling daily. Time does not exit to relearn the previous lessons weekly, to move forward.

I know they have limited time per child and I have just one student, but WTF kind of teachers do we have that virtually 9 of them, twice that many teachers assistants, 6 counselors and Lord knows how many administrators missed this. I have questioned all along that he cannot do the work all year long, yet he passes the End of Grade Exams. Sounds like BS to me. That and stupidity on the part of the "educators".

I fully understand the people in NY, and I hope they contribute to the Homeschool Defense Fund. This could work out in everyone's favor, to have a Federal Court decide that OUR kids are OUR kids.

And yes, I see the typical leftist MSM bias. Bitch. And I like the Superintendent's answer.

"It APPEARS that SOME schooling was occurring..."

Appears? Some? ARROGANCE?!

Unless they test these kids ASAP, he has ZERO idea what kind of schooling they were getting. If history holds true, those kids will test out ahead of the public school kids. And are better adjusted.

I liked the comments section. There are some scary folks running around loose.

The law says that children between 6 and 16 must be educated, and i agree with that concept. But the law doesn't say by whom the kids should be taught, leaving the door open for parents to teach their kids, which is the way it should be. Of course, the state requires the parents to show what the kids are being taught, which allows the state to maintain control. Cute! It's a system Joseph Goebbels would be proud of.

The state is afraid that home schooled children may actually end up with the ability to think for themselves, something the state, and our political system, can't afford.
