A Prescription for American Health Care

This is a great article on the subject from Hillsdale College's Imprimis. I suggest everyone take the time to read it and then post your thoughts on the subject. Since Maobama says he will announce the elimination of dozens of government programs that don't work, maybe Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid would be a good place to start cutting back.

It's always a good idea to get the gov't out of our lives as much as we can

BOW - that's blaspheme to a liberal. They will tell you that there is no such thing as too much nanny - if only they could control every breath you take, the world would be perfect.

Well... perfect except for AIDS, poverty, hunger, hopelessness, anarchy, sloth, drugs, apathy, and death.

It is far too late to eliminate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Too many people have banked on these progams being solvent for us to ignore them now.

This was a promise, that if people allowed the government to take their money NOW, they would get it back LATER. Fact is, unless we are all in the business of reniging on promises, there has to be a way to get this fixed.

Of course, having not broken it to begin with would have been nice, CONGRESS, I'm looking in your direction. IOUs don't buy bread, you bastards.

The other fact is, Social Security is not an entitlement. It is no more an entitlement than my 401K is an entitlement. People paid into it. That is THEIR MONEY. This is not some government handout, it is simply a governmentally operated savings program.

Of course, our elected worms spent the savings, and are now telling us they have to raise our taxes to get the money back or else the money that we put into the system will dissappear.

You cannot even buy your way out of it. The liabilities the government holds for Social Security amount to 52 trillion. That's about 12 times the yearly total GDP of the entire country. Fact is, we are all stuck with one big mess on our hands, and there just simply isn't enough money to fix it or kill it. It's like the hydra. Cut it's head off, it will just grow back.
