State of the Union Preview: a budget freeze, a earmark ban and pigs will fly in 2011!!

.
President Obama to Propose Budget Freeze and Earmark Ban Tonight
.
Pursuing a path of deficit reduction and government reform, President Obama will tonight in his State of the Union address call for a ban on earmarks and he will propose an overall budget freeze, ABC News has learned.

The proposals come as the president prepares to tackle the deficit and debt and as he faces a House of Representatives in Republican hands, many of whose members include those affiliated with the Tea Party who may be willing to embrace both moves.

The president will propose some new spending in certain areas that address the speech’s theme of “How We Win the Future”: innovation, education and infrastructure. But those increases will be proposed as part of an overall budget freeze, which given the annual rate of growth is often seen in Washington, DC, budgeting as a cut.

The FY 2011 budget was $3.8 trillion. Last year President Obama proposed a three-year hard freeze on non-security discretionary spending, to save $250 billion over the next decade; this would be much broader.
.
“I’m a strong believer that the earmarking process in Congress isn’t what the American people really want to see when it comes to making tough decisions about how taxpayer dollars are spent,” the president said. “And I, in the rush to get things done, had to sign a bunch of bills that had earmarks in them, which was contrary to what I had talked about. And I think folks look at that and they said, ‘Gosh, this feels like the same partisan squabbling, this seems like the same ways of doing business as happened before.’”

.
...uh huh, I'll believe it when I see it, and a $250M savings against a 3 TRILLION DOLLAR debt is like me skipping the BK and going home to eat a PB&J. It means nothing in the big scheme of things.

Obummer should've given his speech in Vegas, the home of great illusions. And here's my prediction for Wed. His (MSM) poll numbers will go up!

A very good point...

"I already believe very firmly that [mixed seating at State of the Union speech] is a trap and a ruse that Democrats are proposing. They don't want civility. They want silence from the Republicans. And the sitting together being kissy-kissy is just another way to try to silence Republicans, and also to show -- to keep the American people from seeing how few of them there are in the U.S. House now."

Spider,
I'm not so sure, Anon's link is from the A/p and it's pretty pointed that he's full of crap. And one of his biggest cheerleaders, Olbermonkey, just walked off into the stands.

Did anyone see the Frank Luntz piece on FOX after the speech?

Atlanta, 29 people, 13 of them Obama voters. 4 (FOUR) of them thought he was dead on, 7 will NOT vote for him again, and one moron thought the economy IS better because of Obama, of course, he also thought the election worked for Republican voters BECAUSE the Lame Duck Congress got so much done!!

(even the lib blacks were wishing he'd shut the f*&k up)

Most of them knew INVESTMENT means spending, 24 didn't want it.

One young black woman, Obama voter, didn't hold her hand up, regardless of the questions being for or against Obama's speech. She was either deaf or dead. (a dead but voting transplant from Chicago?)

I heard Glenn Beck playing a clip of phone calls they made last week from his radio gig. The question was "...what is socialism?" 8 or 10 adults chosen at random could NOT answer. Most thought it had to do with socialIZING with friends / co-workers. Some thought it meant being sociABLE in groups.

One guy said, "In a word, OBAMA."

It's no wonder nobody sees the danger, when somebody says the current WH or Congress is full of Socialists, they think Pelosi, Reid and Obama like to PARTY. Sad but true.

I guess what gets under my skin is that ALL our recent leaders think the State of the Union is an opportunity to tell us what they'll do, try to do, NEXT.

I wish some truthful person (Palin, Paul, Jindal, and now Paul Ryan) would get up there and give us numbers and facts.

Even the Obama voters in ATLANTA knew the economy is still screwed up, but dumb ass went all giddy about how much better things are.

Seriously?

There are more people out of work and more foreclosures DAILY than there were two years ago when he took the job!!!

How is that better?
