OK, I'd like to ask, as an ex-Indian Ocean, over 1 month on gonzo station, protect the Shah, holder of a Navy Expeditionary Medal from the summer of 1979 for those efforts sailor, when was this NOT the case?
Before the Shah, there was an ever changing Monarchy. Most monarchies have a "my way or the highway" attitude. That's fairly ideological. And it goes back THOUSANDS of years. Iran is Persia, so we're talking 3000+ years of ideological history.
After the Shah came the Grand Ayatollah Kockamamie in 1979, and ever after they've had radical Islamic ideology. We might as well be talking to King Xerxes, for trying to "talk" this out with the current Persian / Iranian leaders.
The problem is that the world is short of Spartans now.
