Texas rejects stimulus unemployment money

Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday rejected $555 million in federal stimulus money that would expand state unemployment benefits, saying the money would have required the state to keep funding the expanded benefits after the stimulus money ran out.

Way to go, Rick! With all the stimulus $$$ going to this, policemen, teachers, etc., the states should figure out that THEY get to pay for all of this when the money runs out... It ain't the Federal government!

Apparently, there are some governors and mayors who are smart enough to realize this stimulus money, although very attractive, is a one shot deal. What will they do with all the liberal hand-out programs they create when the money's gone?

I think they are realizing it is an irreversible contract with socialism. Like Bug pointed out (in a way) - Perry realized that if he sells Texas' soul to the devil - it's gone for good and Texas is owned by the devil.

I note the SC Governor is also considering telling Obama to stick his fiddle up his ass.

Perry isn't the shiniest penny in the pig - but he has nice hair *snicker* and it looks like he's putting the State first (this time).

But he IS anti-border fence. {:-(

Look at what kind of people you are. Glad to see your fellow citizens denied help but full on cheerleaders for the $5 trillion in debt racked up under bush.

You're subhumans.

That last post made absolutely no sense. Reads like it was written by a 16 year old idealistic lunatic.

Stupid little bastard should go blog with other kids rather farting in a room of reasoning adults. He may be able to make kids his age believe he has half a brain.

Just kidding... they'll know he's stupid.

Where and when did anyone on this site ever "cheer" the debt racked up by GduhB?

Go ahead, dig that post up, I'd like to see it, Leftard.

And not that you will pay attention or comprehend, but the point is that this money given to the states this one time, will bind them to an unfunded mandate in the future when this money is gone.

Now I don't know about your state, but here in The People's RepubliK of Washington, we have payroll deduction for "unemployment insurance" that is matched by the employer. This funds the benefits to the unemployed.

When this money runs out, to continue the mandate the state will have to raise that deduction. Higher costs to business generally has the possible side effect of people getting laid off nitwit.

Texas is looking better as a retirement state all the time.

And HLT. I'm with HJohnnyR, WERE did you EVER see us cheer GWB spending? Again, I challenge you to show that, because we were SCREAMING AND YELLING AND SENDING E-MAILS to Bush and our elected worms to stop the spending.

You're all bluster and BS. There is no substance, no possible defense to lying ABOUT us, TO us. Even my 4 y/o grandson knows not to try that kind of crap with anyone.

You remain a Dickhead.

Well, i think you guys are getting all upset over nothing. Why? Because YO president now says "things aren't so bad after all". That's right! After what has been (and continues to be) the biggest money-grab in the history of the world, the half-breed is now telling us that it's not as bad as he thought! Now let's see you try and get all those TRILLIONS back from the lying crooks in DC. Let's see you roll-back the welfare, food stamp, neighborhood grant, etc. increases that have been handed out to all of his favorite left-wing parasites.
