A good mother, for once...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,451806,00.html

And what does the media do? Puts the story on the front page of national news outlets. IMHO, they are trying to demonize her for punishing her son. You guys read it and see what you think, or if you think I am just being sensitive about the whole thing. What I see is a mother who sees her son riding his bike without a helmet, against the rules, and riding out in front of a car and getting hit. Just as my Mom would have done to me, or I would do to MY son, he got grounded/punished for not following the rules.

And it makes headline news, with the headline purposely reading to make it seem like the boy is being punished for being in a horrible accident, so that readers go into the story with a bias against the mother.

The facts are:

It wasn’t an accident, it was the boy being stupid;
The boy wasn’t wearing his helmet, which was against the rules.

He got punished, and the news media thinks that is their business.

Goo “WTF?” ber

Amnesty: Rape girl, 13, killed for adultery

* Story Highlights
* Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow, 13, was stoned to death October 27, Amnesty says
* 1,000 spectators watched the punishment, report adds
* Rights groups says she was accused of adultery after claiming she was raped

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said.

Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death Oct. 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.

Initial local media reports said Duhulow was 23, but her father told Amnesty International she was 13. Some of the Somali journalists who first reported the killing later told Amnesty International that they had reported she was 23 based upon her physical appearance.

Calls to Somali government officials and the local administration in Kismayo rang unanswered Saturday.

"This child suffered a horrendous death at the behest of the armed opposition groups who currently control Kismayo," David Copeman, Amnesty International's Somalia campaigner, said in a statement Friday.

I hope you are kidding.

Even if you are; bad form, man.

That's just fucking awful.

Hmmmmm. I'm a mother. I'm trying to put myself in her shoes. He is 6 years old. Why was he allowed out of the house without his helmet on in the first place? Now that I'm old enough to be a grandmother, if my child let my 6 yr. old grandchild out on his bike without a helmet, I'd blame my child. I wonder if she was even outside watching them. Ever watch the Super Nanny? It's about training the parents, not the kids.

She was a Muslim GooBar. Anything that decreases their number has my vote. You puss.

C-Bug;

I rode thousands of miles without my helmet on as a kid. Just because he didn't have it on doesn't mean that he didn't leave the house with it. I was all over the neighborhood at 6 years old without Mom watching me. And if I screwed up, I was punished.

This is the type of parenting we need. Let the kid be indepenedent, make his or her own choices, and face the consequences when the choices are bad ones.

Too many people spend too much time coddling and babying and helping their kids make every decision, and it hurts them, not helps.

Goob,
They didn't make bicycle helmets when I was a kid. I rode ALL over TOWN, as did Mr. Bug, but not at 6 years old. Out in the driveway or up and down the sidewalk, yes, but not all over the neighborhood. Shoot, I might have still been on training wheels at 6, depending on which end of 6 I was on. You're lucky to be alive. :-)

P.S. It is a much different world today. This was in an apartment complex parking lot. No telling who could have been hanging around. A responsible mother should have been watching. I'm guessing she probably wasn't.

As a kid, i rode my bike on the busiest streets in NYC, and didn't even know what a helmet was. In fact, i still ride without one. Today, i see kids riding with helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, face masks, and every other kind of device that will keep them "safe". Hell, if that's the case, keep them locked in their rooms!

"Snorpht do you really want us to stoop to their level?... Goob"

I'm not Snorpht but, YES!!

Spider: If you believe that is OK then why were you upset when Murtha accused our troops of doing just that?
You should have urged them on.

Thanks for the attribution, Spidey, but I didn't write that. I put my name on what I write, you'll never see me post as anonymous without it being a mistake that i quickly rectify.

Chronos, where are you, we need you to track down who wrote this under anonymous.

Sorry Goob, i stand corrected.

Pastor, i did urge them on. I wasn't upset with our troops or with what they were "alleged" to have done. I was upset with the traitor Murtha for accusing them of such a deed. BTW, his accusations were proved false.

The object of war is to kill as many of the enemy as you can, and as fast as you can, so you can go home. If our leaders didn't understand what urban warfare against terrorists would be like, (and IMO they didn't) then our troops should not have been sent in.

Spider I don't believe our troops committed a crime in Iraq. My question to is about why you are angry at Murtha if you think they should have done it. You said -
