Wouldn’t you know it – Thanksgiving as we know it has Republican roots.
In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln appointed a national day of thanksgiving. That was the very first year we officially celebrated Thanksgiving as a nation. Ironic, isn’t it? One hundred forty five years later, we are as divided now as we were then. But just as folks could find things to be thankful for 145 years ago during America’s darkest days; we can also find things to be thankful for during our current dark days, such as:
* Advanced technology in personal/family protection and game management
* Growing techniques that allow bumper crops in your backyard gardens
* Monosodium glutamate
Be thankful for what you have, be prepared to protect it, share what you can, beware of delusional liars, remember history, and pass on truth to all who will listen.

Why, if you existed in the time of the Pilgrims you would have refused to share with the Indians or the other settlers. You would have probably shot the Indians with your many, manly guns and told the other settlers to get their own damn food, that you weren't going to participate in some socialist "sharing" bullcrap invented by some liberal fag like Barney Frank the Pilgrim. "Hey", you'd say while scratching yourself, "I got my food for me and my family. Go get your own or starve. This ain't no charity!"
Of course then they'd ostracize you and the family and you'd be forced from the settlement and be eaten by bears.

What in God's name do you base this statemnet on HLF? I'm dying to hear an explanation.
Well, that was a bit harsh. But Jimbo's comments to me are less than charitable.
That statement is an extension of the conservatives' harping on welfare and their resistance to giving. They always say they're compassionate and generous but the first thing out of their mouths when you ask why they hate liberalism is their image of liberals as supporters of welfare. When talking about taxes that is their first response. When talking about government spending that is their first response. When talking about the weather that is their first response.
Conservatives are obsessed to the point of paranoid delusion with someone, somewhere getting helped. If they didn't express that sentiment so often and so vehemently, I would not have written it. Otherwise, where would I have formulated the idea?
Obviously, from all the left-wing talking points you've been fed. If you ever kick the Kool-Aid habit, you'll find that, generally speaking, one of the main differences between Conservatives and liberals is that we give from the heart, while liberals only talk about giving to get attention, and even then it's always somebody else's money they're giving away. That's another reason liberals are phonies.
BTW, welfare was (and is) a liberal Demoncrat creation! In fact, even global welfare, (a.k.a. Foreign Aid) is a child of the same parents, the left.
If one resists giving, then from what heart does this giving occur?
Quite the empty platitude there. "Conservatives give from the heart". Do explain.
It means when we give, we give to the truly needy and it's with sincerity. Not for attention. Not for publicity. Not for political gain. The only people we might "resist" giving to are those who are not worthy, like people who could work but prefer to wallow in their addiction to hand-outs, an addiction created (and sustained) by liberals.

How is giving from you the individual less attention-grabbing than pooling resources from the taxes on all and dividing it up through a central agency that will make sure everyone who needs gets some?
Seems to me that giving your way is more for publicity and attention.
It's all an academic exercise anyway since so little of the tax we pay goes to "welfare". Your fears are well-noted in that, typical to people of your political persuasion, you believe 99% of the budget is "welfare". Or is it simply that, by telling yourself that your taxes are wasted on the unworthy, you can feel better about resisting paying your taxes to support the services you use? That would define a deadbeat.
Talk about wallowing. You wallow in paranoia that someone is taking your money and giving it to the lazy bums. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I don't need to explain to you what my family and I have given to America and continue to do so since my forebearers arrived on these shores. But while we give of our money, time and resources freely, we expect nothing in return. Not one vote. Nor do we require YOU to empty your pockets because it will get me one vote. Parasites should not be encouraged to continue while killing the host. And that is exactly what you and your liberal socialist parasites do to our society. Doubtless you produce nothing yourself, had well to do upbringing and think you are more knowlegeable than anyone else. Anyone who whines as much as you do about welfare and who complains non-stop about having to pay taxes hasn't given SQUAT to anyone unless you've been forced to pay your bills to live here.
Why do conservatives think that they can lie abou being generous? Just admit what you are. You don't want to give to anything, in fact, you just plain hate paying your bills. That's all. No one is fooled.
