'Horns cut player for racial slur about Obama

A Texas Longhorns team leader Monday praised the way coaches handled the dismissal of a player who posted a racial slur on his Facebook page about President-elect Barack Obama.

Here it is: "all the hunters gather up, we have a n$%&er in the whitehouse"

Justified or an overreaction?

Note that Senior defensive end Henry Melton wrote "Obama'' on the black patches he wore under his eyes during Texas' 45-21 win over Baylor on Saturday.

He should've said, the nigga's gone from the woodpile to the White House!

Don't be surprised when you start to notice our freedom-of-speech getting "tweeked and adjusted" by the Left. Apparently, there are tens-of-millions of non-liberals in this country. I wonder if they truly realize what they're in for.

Spidey,
LOL! Reminds me of my grandmother who often used the "woodpile" comment when she saw a curly headed white kid. (Funny thing is I've got a curly headed white kid and I can guarantee you that wasn't the case!) God rest her soul, she's rolling over in her grave right now. She once told my granddad she was glad he played football when they "were all white" (1918-1921) and she didn't like it when we watched the Cosby Show.

Nothing new in this...

in light of the photo Ms. C-Bug posted a few weeks back on the other site showing Mack Brown presenting a 'Horns jersey to then candidate Obama. I knew I shoulda gone to A & M!

As an aside, Jack had a football scholarship to Texas back in the 1960's when the University had enough money and little enough oversight by the NCAA that they could give a guy a free ride just to avoid having to play against him. At the start of his sophomore year, a couple of the assistant coaches came to Jack and told him that "he didn't fit into their plans." Further, they told him that he could continue to go to school free, but to "not come out and bother the team at practice." Jack told them that was fine and he'd have a lot more time to work on his degree, which is why he came to school in the first place. The assistants looked shocked because they assumed he'd be insulted and quit school to go somewhere he could play ball. The later sent a few team members to see Jack about "taking up a scholarship that could be better used." Jack's Golden Gloves experience came in extremely handy in that meeting. They never came back.

Oh, and...

No, we were not a couple back in those days although we were friends and fellow polictical junkies. We spent more time that we should at Scholz's drinking their many varieties of draft beer and talking about the sad state of political affairs. Sadly, we both married others.

Annie, Maybe A&M will pick this kid up. I believe it was Jimbo who earlier said that UT is a bunch of Cal Berkeley wannabees. How can a guy be a racist and play college football? I don't see how. Give the guy a talking to and/or make him apologize to his teammates but don't kick him off the team. And good for Jack for standing up for himself!

Hi, C-Bug,

Jack said to convey his thanks to you. He was way more mature at age 20 than I am now. Jimbo's right about UT being a bunch of Cal-Berserkly or Wisconsin-Madison wannabees. This kid is getting the shaft because he chose to exercise his free speech rights on a public forum. I guess the doctrine of in loco parentis is alive and well in the Lone Star State.
