We did not ban HLF. He can still read and post his drivel to this site if he obtains a Google ID. And, I suppose you did not take the time to read Annie's comment from last night, ABU. What's the matter? Would the facts get in the way of your preconcieved notions? Annie closed the site because all who are authors here have administratiove privileges. That means that all authors have the ability to change the layout, the design, alter the permissions or to delete this site. HLF threatened to destroy the site if his comments were deleted. You may be one of those folks who disagree with the concept of private property. Disagree as you will. This place remains Annie's property and she is not obligated to allow someone to come here and destroy her site. If this policy troubles you that greatly, then take your comments to the millions of other sites available to you. I bet that Annie would make you a guest author if you asked.
If, being an "abusive prick" is cause to get banned, why is Poot still here? He's never contributed anything to a discussion other than name calling and the occasional "kill them all" comments. Could it be that because he agrees with you that you tolerate him being here?
At least HLF gave us something to talk about and an opposing point of view. How is anybody going to learn anything if we already know it all.
If HLF was going to cause damage to this site then, yes, he should be kicked but short of that, everybody should have a voice here.
And my comments earlier were to show how, once you get rid of one voice, its easy to get rid of them all.
I like most of the people that post here, you are smart people with strong opinions. I would hate to see this site become a "preach to the choir" type of place like most other blogs.

HLF, has nothing to add. His / her comments are littered with abusive language and such broad generalizations that it defies description.
Saying that ALL or EVERYY person of a group acts like "X" or believes "X", is stupid and shows ignorance on the speakers part IMHO.
Just for the tally books, and beings I'm the one who called for HLF's ouster, I have repeatedly called for the conservatives to NOT use broad generalizations here also.
I personally don't believe that ALL followers of Islam are one prayer away from donning a bomb belt. Others here would disagree.

I, too, noticed that the masthead has been changed. Since I do not consider myself to be computer literate I did not understand why it was necessary to require a Google ID before you could READ the posts here. Surely there is another way to prevent unwanted post. With me it has never been a free speech thing. This is not a public blog and the owner/administrator has right/responsibility to protect their interests. If Annie decides to reinstate the requirement for a Google ID then I have two options. I can get an ID or do without reading the posts. One other thing in parting, Abu is correct when he says the foul language flows both ways. And no, I am not overly sensitive about the language.

That's something we give each other here with or without a banner. As for banning someone, remember, this blog is still "private property", meaning the owner has the right to set rules, which is not censorship. So feel free to join our little gang.
