Sad, but True.

.
I have repeatedly spoken ill of 'merican Idle here, and elsewhere frankly.
.
It, to me, is the lowest common denominator of entertainment. The producers, produce nothing, they prey on the dreams and hopes of people who are usually more suited to asking if I want to Super Size, than they are to headlining in Vegas or at your local sports / entertainment venue. The judges, HAH, judge people who are often much more talented than they themselves are. Given the panel, that isn't a very high bar. It's sad, sad, sad IMHO.
.
Having said that, Variety Magazine's raw numbers from last night show 'merican Idle drew more watchers than Obama. Is anyone surprised?
.
'merican Idle is appealing to the same, know nothing, do nothing, what can you do for me, poliutics is confusing, GWB sucks 'cause Paris Hilton said so crowd, that doesn't bother to vote.

If it wasn't for the "queers" we wouldn't have much entertainment.

It all started with "bowling for dollars" and then the "bong show", uh gong show.

And now it's "teletubbies"

Don't forget Dancing With The Stars, or the several monster/ghost hunting offerings that are cheap ripoffs of 'The Blair Witch project' - low light camera setting, wide eyed actors saying, "Oh my God, what was THAT?", "Eeek", and so-on - to depict something unseen (or real).

The target audience for these pieces of crap must be drugged-out 4-year-olds.

There is so little worth watching on TV these days. I have 250 channels and maybe turn to 3 or 4 of them, but most times and disappointed on them, too.

Has anybody noticed the amount of commercials per break has increased while the time between breaks had decreased.

And, in keeping with the law FCC stating the volume during a commercial can't be jacked up, they crank down the sound for the program which accomplishes the same thing. Commercial break, bang on the volume down key on the remote, bang on the volume up key when the program resumes.

Time we get back to reading books and screw the tube.

(...but I love my Hi-Def big screen...)

The Fox show "Fringe" has limited commercials. The breaks are all 60 or 90 seconds. It makes it more enjoyable. The science on the show is beyond science fiction though.

Abu,
I jut read an article that Fox is moving MORE of it's prime time shows to fewer commercials like Fringe. And they're getting the same revenue per hour. Why?

Because the TiVo crowd isn't zipping or zapping the commercials on Fringe.

The advertisers are happy because the Fringe audience is watching their ads again.

BTW, Fringe is THE best show on right now!! Good speed, twists, back story, crazy science, Michael Crichtonish craziness.

This is what X-Files was like at the beginning. But Fringe has MUCH better acting and set ups.

If you like sci-fi, give this one a try.

If not, try it anyway.

American Idol is simply a modern version of the old circus side show, which today would be considered so un-PC that the circus owner would go to jail. There's nothing people enjoy more than watching others make fools of themselves, even though in most cases, it's rather sad. Many of the people on that show are obviously in need of professional help.

Even worse IMO, is the fact that more Americans vote on that show, than vote in the presidential election. That, sadly, says volumes about our society.

Hey now, RT, Ghost Hunters is a good program. Not like all those cruddy ones with "psychics" who "feel a presence", or nerdy teenagers (or nerdy middle-aged guys)who claim every piece of dust they capture on-camera is a Spirit Orb. They go in with the pre-disposition that there is NOT a ghost here, and we're gonna prove it.

Oh, and Spider--it's cuz they don't have to go anyplace to vote for Idol (which I also detest). AND they can vote more than once. 'Course, Libs ususally find a way to do that too...
