Yea, its global warrming and the world is going to end

OK, here is something I heard on the radio this morning and found a print article. It again involves my messed up home state. Apparently, the EPA along with the Sierra Club is claiming the sky is falling because sea levels are up an inch or 2. They say this is leading to the destruction of the barrier islands, which would allow a Katrina-like hit in NJ adding that the problems with the barrier islands down there are what caused Katrina to flood New Orleans. I though New Orleans flooded because of levy breaks. Its amazing how fast history gets re-written around there.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel cold.

The eye had already passed New Orleans when surge water from Lake Pontchartrain overwhelmed the Lake Pontchartrain levies. Here's a link to a Washington Post story on it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/20/AR2005092001894.html

We were following it on TV since Katrina was still heading for us. Everyone had relaxed somewhat since it looked like New Orleans had made it with few serious problems.

...and the levies weren't up to speed because the city fathers of Nawlins, and state elected worms, spent money meant for levie upkeep.

They spent it on midnight bastetbah, new parks in high crime areas and for new badges for cops in Nawlins to improve morale.

The real problem with the "consensus" of climate change is that it doesn't exist. One group says the ice caps will be gone next century, another says next week. One group says the oceans will rise by a few inches over the next century, another group says it's a foot or more in the next 12 to 30 years.

If they can't agree with each other, why should I agree with, or believe them?

Missy;

Good post, but you forgot one important thing when you talked about the seas having risen 1 to 2 inches already:

Timescale.

This 1 to 2 inch rise was realized over several hundred years, and is thought to be natural recovery from the most recent (and possibly the Little) ice age.

Amazingly enough, this 3/4 to 1 inch per hundred year trend has not changed at all, despite the doomsayers in the AGW industry, and so it is yet one more point of truth indicating that nothing really all that interesting is happening, at all.

New Orleans:
Ground water underneath the city has been pumped out for years further sinking the city below sea level.
The Mississippi has been channeled by the levees and forced into an unnatural path pushing the sediment that has fed the surrounding marshlands further out and starving the marshlands of the much needed soil.
The depleted marshlands were unable to quell the tidal surge as they had in the past.
Ergo: man did cause the problems in New Orleans, unfortunately, it was all due to the Chocolate City management's incompetence.
Lucky for them, though, GWB was available for blame and the press was happy to oblige.

I agree with anon.

I saw a magic school bus episode that was about this - before it happened!

Don't believe everything you read, only half of what you see, and none of what you hear!

And if you choose to live below sea level, you had better be ready to swim!

A worthless substance that comes gift-wrapped in a spell-binding sales pitch, it’s the official beverage at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, now that Messiah Barry is ‘in the house’.
