Evidently, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was caught on a phone photo smoking a bong.
.
From the insanity in the press, and from the SC cops, you'd think he'd raped and murdered a baby harp seal, in Obama's office, with the First Daughters forced to watch!!
.
What I also don't understand is the heading of this Reuters story.
.
RALEIGH, North Carolina, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Record-breaking Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps could face criminal charges following the publication of a photograph purportedly showing him smoking marijuana, The State newspaper of Columbia, South Carolina reported on Tuesday.
A South Carolina law enforcement official said he would charge Phelps if he could prove the U.S. Olympian smoked marijuana in his county.
"This case is no different than any other case," Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told The State.
Lott's comments come after a British newspaper published a photograph purportedly showing Phelps smoking marijuana at a party being held by students at the University of South Carolina in Columbia in November.
Columbia, the South Carolina state capital, is located in Richland County.
.
First off, who the hell really cares? Is there a shortage of munchie foods in SC? Did Phelps exacerbate the problem?
But, what does Raleigh, NC have to do with this story? Nothing is the simple answer. It's about 225 miles from Raleigh to Columbia. It's about the same from Atlanta or Brunswick GA, to Columbia.
.
This is why I doubt a great deal of "news" that comes from the media. If they can't get the "where" right, why should I trust the "who", "what", "when" or the "why"?

They couldn't get it right because they were all stoned
They have a picture of him with a bong in his hand. That is not proof that there was pot in the pipe at the time.
If he was smart he would have claimed that he was posing for the picture with an empty bong and wasn't smoking anything.
I blame George Bush
Good point Babu. In fact, there is no crime here, since they can't prove if any drugs were present, nor can they really show where this occured. Yes, many jurisdictions do have laws for possession of drug paraphernalia, (ie: rolling paper, bongs, etc.) but it's extremely rare that it would be pushed to this point. Also, a good lawyer could always argue that it wasn't actually him. This story is simply the MSM doing what it does best, "creating and sensationalizing" news where none exists.
Besides, if he smokes weed and does that good, might not this story incourage more people to smoke?
They don''t know who took the picture.
They don't know where the picture was taken.
They don't know what was in the bong, if anything.
Except for that, they have an ope and shut case.
I have yet to figure out the predilection to take photographs of everything you do. 'Look at me, I'm doing something stupid and illegal. I'm going to put it on the worldwide net so everybody sees what an asshole I am.' And when they do take the picture, they're usually flashing some stupid sign with their fingers that I don't get. What is up with that?
If blacks and Mexicans do it, they're gang signs. When Whites do it, they're just trying to look "cool" like (they think) blacks and mexicans look. These are mindless young people looking for attention. It's the only way they have of telling the world, "look, i do exist, even though i'm a waste".
The real asshole is the guy who took the picture and posted on some web site.
Thank God it wasn't Dynabol or Testostril.
Our drug laws are fucked up worse than Hogan's goat.
That's very true nerd, but those laws are making some people "very" wealthy, and i'm not just talking about south American cartels either! One of the major reasons the so-called war on drugs never worked, is because it wasn't meant to work.
Well, no it wasn't. It was designed as a price support program for controlled substance dealers and the countries in which their products originate. If we were to stop the importation of all Bolivian and Colombian cocaine, all Mexican marijuana and all Afghan heroin the economies of the countries would fold up like a tent. All the money that they owe American banks would go with them and leave our banking system in worse shape than it is already. The money the government recieves in fines from court cases and property seizures from drug defendants is an extra, added attraction. Eventually, our government is going to succeed in making so many substances and activities illegal that we won't be able to avoid breaking the law.
