Oregon wants to tax mileage instead of gasoline. This is what happens when drivers want to drive fuel efficient and electric cars. As cars burn less fuel,
the gas tax isn't going to fill the bill. So...which is it.... Save fuel or keep driving our gas guzzling SUV's?

This is a typical liberal solution. They're forcing us to drive these expensive, Tofu-powered cars, and if we do, we'll be "rewarded" with higher gas taxes! And you can bet the EnviroNazi's will do their usual magic and make it sound as though it actually makes sense!
Their tactics are almost always the same. Use junk-science and the media to create fear and hysteria. Then use that hysteria to push for legislation to force people to comply with the demands of the Left. It's right out of Social Engineering 101.
Whether it's tobacco, light bulbs, or rubberband-powered cars, the "we always know better than you do" Leftists will not stop until they have total control over how we live our lives, something they're well on their way to accomplishing, but only if we allow it.
That's exactly it - people use less gas, so the gubmint looses out on all the tax revenue (most of it already spent in advance) so the tax-hungry socialists have to create different ways to steal from the taxpayer.
There are fewer smokers by the day. I wonder what they'll do to cover the drop in cigarette sales? Tax chewing gum?

since Obama smokes, "they" will discover new medical evidence that says that smoking in moderation is actually good for you.
"They" will point out that George Bush does not smoke and look at how bad a president he was.
And if enough people don't start smoking and paying cigarette taxes, "they" will pass a law making smoking mandatory.
Then when enough of the medical profession complains, "they" will change the law to make smoking illegal but paying cigarette taxes mandatory

& speaking of taxes... I can't wait until Obama makes good on his promise to eliminate income tax on retirees who make less than 50K a year.
I have been working with my accounts to structure withdrawals from my income producing accounts, and setting up a pension deferral plan with my ex-employer and looking at several other thing.
I believe I can set it up so that I only have to pay income taxes once every 5 years.
So for four years I'll have income of 49K, then every 5th year income of about $300K plus.
and it will be legal !!!!!!!!

I payed a total of $56,438 in Federal and State taxes in 2008. Add fuel taxes, sin taxes, and sales taxes; I'm probably scratching 100k.
But, of course - the socialists want more.
I've about decided to quit contributing (supporting) and move to the welfare roles. I've paid enough in taxes to support myself the rest of my life plus a bunch. No way I'll feel "guilty".

I heard one of the elected lying crooks on TV talking about this new gas tax. He said that the millage and gas tax collected would be returned to the people, via the elimination of the payroll tax.
Based on that explanation, people who are retired (or don't work) and own a car will have to pay the taxes, but they'll get nothing back since they don't pay payroll tax, while people who do work but don't own a car will get the advantage of not having to pay the payroll tax! Can you say FUBAR?

I've been reading Jimbo's comments for years, and I don't ever remember him saying, or even implying, he supports war.

HLF again forgets that war, historically is a leftist activity.
Lets count the wars that the US either "volunteered" to fight or were dragged into via purposeful inaction and prodding by the president at the time and keep track of what letter was after his name.
Voluntary war #1 - Mexican American War - James K Polk, Democrat
Voluntary War #2 - WWI - Woodrow Wilson, Democrat
War brought about by will of the president (probably could have been avoided) #1 - WWII - FDR - Democrat
Voluntary war #3 - Korea - Harry S Truman - Democrat
Voluntary War #4 - Vietnam - JFK, then later, LBJ - Both democrats
Amonst the above, the only other voluntary wars that i can think of were Gulf 1 and Gulf 2. Gulf 1 was rather reluctantly undertaken by a republican, and was done so in order to acheive a goal. Once the goal was acheived, we got the hell out. (As compared to the mires of vietnam and korea)
Gulf 2 is another situation, and is the first time in my life that i can remember conservatives actually being FOR a foreign conflict.
Other voluntary conflicts that we've gotten ourselves into, Bosnia, Kosovo, Somalia, etc, were all absolutely and without question decried by the conservatives. They were also democrat presidents that got us into them. Conservatism has a long, proud history of not getting tied up in foreign wars.
That the current administration led us into that light is beside the point. We only support wars that we have no other choice but to engage in, like afghanistan and WWII (after FDR purposely instigated our way into it).
So your war mongering bullshit is really, truly not only a lie, but is falling on deaf ears.
