Oops. They just changed the headline to:

BREAKING NEWS: President Bush commutes sentences of former Border Patrol agents

and said that they will live the rest of their lives with the burden of being convicted felons and the "shame" they brought to their badge. Shame?!?! SHAME?!?! The only shame is the government siding with a convicted drug smuggler who was shot in the ass while trying to smuggle drugs.

Shame to their badges? What about the shame G.W. Nitwit has to live with for getting us involved in a war in the wrong country? He said on TV that he felt they were guilty of not complying with Border Patrol rules. 10+ years for breaking a rule?

10 plus years was bullshit. I'm glad that the sentences were commuted. They should have been. We place our border patrol and law enforecment into very sticky, dangerous situations, and then expect total, 100% record of no mistakes from them, and throw the book at them when they screw up, and that is wrong. These dangerous, sticky situations almost DEMAND a screw up or two every now and then. When the screw up happens (and it is shown to be a screw up and nothing else), they lose their job. Period. FULL STOP.

These guys, in my opinion, did a bit more than just screw up, though. They shot a fleeing suspect in the ass. Whether you think it was right or wrong, it was not a legal use of force, and they ought to have lost their jobs, and being that this was a willful thing, I don't even cringe at them being criminally punished in some way.

But 10 YEARS?

They don't deserve a pardon, IMHO, but they've paid their debt to society at this point. Commute thier sentence, and send them home t their family. If they are even remotely coherent and eloquent, they can get big money for speaking arrangements, and will be able to support their families. I'm also thinking BOOK DEAL.

These punks should still be in jail.

Jesus Goob, you praise them with one hand and hang them with the other! Their only mistake was letting the scumbag live. This just reminds us of that old Zulu proverb,

"Never leave an enemy behind"!
(as in, dead men tell no tales)

Ditto that, Spidey.

Did I stutter? I said that LEOs should be given the benefit of the doubt, and when honest mistakes are made, they should lose their job, but no more.

Then, I said that my opinion was that these guys did more than make a mistake. They shot a bad guy while he was running away, which is a big no-no in the force continuum, and not something that happens by accident. That being said, I stated that I DO think that they should be punished, I DO think they should lose their job, and even do some time, but I DO NOT think that their crime was even remotely worth 10 years.

if I wasn't clear, I apologize, but I thought I made myself pretty clear...

Says the keyboard warrior who i would bet has never been in a tense, life-or-death, guns drawn situation in his entire life.

Sometimes, you don't get to think, and actions that seemed totally rational under stress seem very stupid once you walk away and look back at what you did.

You may have given me a good idea for my next posting. Thanks.

Yeah-settling disputes at gunpoint is the level of intelligence I would expect from a bunch of rednecks who frequent this sewer.
