Cap on Wages?

Did I hear the news correctly as I saw the last sunset in America today? Obama has set a cap on wages for corporate America at $500k? (Which, by the way, equals his new wage.)

Goodnight and goodby America. It only took Obama 2 weeks to destroy us (US) - I thought it would take him a couple of years.

Surely I was hearing things, and by the time I log on and listen to news tomorrow (about 11 am Eastern time) I'll realize I'm suffering a delusion...

Jimbo, don't be silly! The republicans and bush already destroyed the US!

What, you think it was Utopia before Jan 20th? LOL

First of all, the last sunset in America is Guam. Perhaps its the last sunset in a US State, but not in America. As for a cap, well, if you make a deal with the devil you have to expect a knife in your back. I am against caps but if you take money from the government you have to expect them to leverage control with it.

The ONLY salaries involved are those of the bailed out financial institutions.

I don't totally agree with it, but these financial clowns gave themselves, and their high level employee worms, BILLIONS of dollars in bonuses over the last 16 months, even thought they knew they'd lost money for their investors.

You shouldn't get a bonus for screwing the pooch!!

There's that awful buzzing AGAIN! Like a million mosquitoes in a coffee can. Only more annoying.

In Memoriam
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is
worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey",
died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

What about limiting CEO pay to a percentage of the profit. If the company doesn't make any money, CEO doesn't get a check.

Liberal double speak:
The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

HLF: I think you speak just to hear your head roar.

Problem with that approach is cooking the books. Weren't Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac increadibly successful?

While i don't think setting these caps is right, it has now become necessary, thanks to the insatiable greed on the part of these CEO's. And as Missy said, if you're going to ask the govt. for a massive handout, then you'd better expect some regulation. Unfortunately, and thanks to the incompetant, lying, crooks in congress, it's too little, and way too late!

Well, maybe Jimbo and other sympathetic conservatives can give their own money to help out the rich CEOs forced to take a pay cut with their corporate welfare.

No one is stopping them.

Will the caps make a difference? what about perks and bonuses?

As I recall there are many CEO's out there making $1 per year, but millions in perks and benefits.

Thank you Chronos. I didn't want to have to get all technical.

And actually - the last sunset is in Alaska - but only in the summer. :-)

I'm not against limiting CEO pay - but I don't think it's the government's job. Next they'll be telling BOW what he "may" charge his patients rather than BOW making that determination based on supply and demand. Most CEO's work for companies traded on the open market. If a person believes the CEO of a company makes too much money, don't buy the stock.

Wages should be regulated by the market, not by some crook in Washington who believes he's a little brown gawd because silly liberals worship him and wet their pants when they see his picture.

The Japanese have had such a law for some time. The CEOs and chairmen of corporations are limited in their compensation to a factor of the lowest paid employee in the company. That said, I fail to see how anyone other than the shareholders of an American company have any authority to dictate executive compensation.

In a capitalistic society CEO salary should be set by the owners of the company. That said, if a company wants to belly up to the government trough in a socialist society, then they take whatever limits are placed on the government money given to them. These guys taking TARP get what they deserve.

O guess The One was upset that there are people who actually worked for their money. 2) Does that pay cap include all the other perks Obama gets? i.e Free housing, free travel, all bills paid for, schools for the kids.
Also what the hell did these execs expect when they took taxpayer funds. They now servants to the One.

In China, corrupt or failing CEO's are shot. It's always the simple solutions that are the most effective.

A guy worth his desk space in a Wall Street investment house, who has been there longer than a couple of years and who exceeds his financial production goals is used to making $1-1.5 million per year

We're not capitalist now that the capitalists have all begged for and received public bailouts.

Capitalism has failed. All over but the kicking and screaming.

Watch close as we sink further. Most are still in denial of how far we'll go down.

Wall Street certainly didn't appreciate this latest marxist-like Obama-move.

That's how/why we'll "go down", fool.

Capitalism has failed. And, are we to then assume that socialism or communism has succeeded? That ststement would be funny were it not so monumentally idiotic.

You're right Nerd - that was one of the most stupid posts (in a long line of stupid posts) that guy has made.

I read through a lot of posts on this blog in passing. Very entertaining, sometimes eye opening, sometimes fairly "dumb". (Maybe there are some inside jokes I don't get.) But your 'HLF' guy only seems to antagonize and never really contributes or socializes like the rest of you. He's like a fly in your soup, or a turd in the public pool.
