I keep pouring money into my old van. So far, including what I paid for it 11 years ago, I'm way, way bucks ahead on what it would cost to buy a new one. And, the new ones are smaller inside (why did they do that?).
A van is supposed to be just that...a van. A box on wheels that can carry a bunch of people or stuff.
Next up on the van agenda is paint and upholstery. I'm sorely attempted to replace the faux 'woodie' treatment with the real thing. Need to find someone who's a good woodworker and see what it would run.
I wish it was 4 or all-wheel drive because of the snow we get here, but front-wheel-drive isn't bad.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (loaded) V8 - 5.7 L HEMI. Actually got 15mpg on the H-Way yesterday. And, now the engine has a few 1000 on it and has loosened up a bit I actually get 13.1mpg around town.

My old van gets 24.9 mpg on the freeway loaded to the gills with people or stuff. 75 mph = 2400 rpm. I replaced the stock 17 gallon gas tank a 20 gallon one and can go better than 450 miles on a fill up. With a 3.3L V-6 and 4-spd automatic it's pretty peppy for a big box. If they made a new one with the same interior room, performance and mileage, I might consider, but they don't.
Ah, progress, aye.
No wonder they are having a problem selling them new cars.

Now that's funny...and I'm glad I drive and old van.
So far, it seems the few Republicans left in congress are putting the brakes on this massive hand-out to Detroit. As of now, it's a no-no. We'll see.

I'm with you, Steve.

Smaller vans = less weight = more gas milage.

EAT ME!
But what about when you're cruising at around 6000 RPM's?

That would be cool.

CTJ,
a while back I saw a PT Cruiser that had the real woodie treatment and it was seriously cool.
Here, have some reality.

O NannerMous, you dolt, 6000 revs in drive (5th) would be about 200 mph. 110 is barely 3,200.
Yeah, so? You mean that klunker can't crack 200?
