U.S. Military Preparing for Domestic Disturbances

A new report from the U.S. Army War College discusses the use of American troops to quell civil unrest brought about by a worsening economic crisis. The report from the War College’s Strategic Studies Institute warns that the U.S. military must prepare for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States” that could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse” or “loss of functioning political and legal order.”

Entitled “Known Unknowns: Unconventional ‘Strategic Shocks’ in Defense Strategy Development,” the report was produced by Nathan Freier, a recently retired Army lieutenant colonel who is a professor at the college, the Army’s main training institute for prospective senior officers.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn warned last week of riots and unrest in global markets if the ongoing financial crisis is not addressed and lower-income households are beset with credit constraints and rising unemployment, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.

I have written about the likelihood of this scenario for the last few years until I am sick of hearing myself talk about it. Our fiat money system makes our currency worthless and the deepening economic conditions cause otherwise law abiding citizens to take actions they would never consider taking in better times. If we have a total monetary collapse, the only items that will have any value are food, fuel, tools, medicine, certain types of machinery, firearms and ammunition.

Driven by hunger and privation, thousands of people will come streaming out of the large population centers and take what they need by any means necessary. Civil authority will utterly fail as it did in New Orleans after the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina. Our friends and neighbors will begin to, first figuratively and then literally...eat one another.

Hey! All those guns may come in handy!

Until someone turns one on you......

Isn't it nice that after 30 years of republican dominance we have to worry about social meltdown?

I thought conservatism was going to bring us Utopia? That's what Mr. Reagan said!

naw, the "thousands of people will come streaming out of the large population centers" will be so strung out on Obama's legalized dope that they will get lost

...as long as you are far enough out of the urban centers (more than a tank of gas) you are safe. The "free cheeze people" won't expend that much effort to come rob you.

The article says, "A new report from...".

This is NOT a new topic of study.

That word "new" means in this case, updated, rewritten, annotated for modern populations, etc. It does not say, initial, first, foremost, germinal, inaugural, inceptive, initiative, introductory, nascent, opening, original, pioneering, or even, virgin.

All governments prepare for these events. Today's headlines nor who sits in power has anything to do with this study being done. The question is, just how close have we been in the past to martial law? Or how soon in the future? I have three dates in mind where it was/is most probably about to be instituted nationwide.

November 22, 1963

September 11, 2001

and the last day, some nebulous date between January 20, 2009 and November 6, 2012, where the economy, a terrorist attack, some event I've not considered, opens the door for President BOHICA to make this grab. In all actuality, the doors is always open for "Greg Stillson" to start WWIV, to save us from ourselves or our enemies.

HLT,
did you ever study American History? Ever read the writings of our founding fathers? Ever talk to gun owning, Right-wing Christians about their core beliefs?

Our founders included in our basic rights the ability to own guns for our protection from our own government. They gave us the rules for doing so in the Declaration of Independence. They fully expected us to read and heed their lessons.

I'm sure it never occurs to someone who makes the noises and statements you do, that many of us would protect you, and other liberals also, with our evil bullets. If the food supply gets scarce and we have to head to the woods, there isn't one of us who would allow you, or anyone, to starve because of your political differences.

Many of the folks here have taken one oath or another to fight for your rights too. We all believe in your right to disagree with us and to speak your mind.

Most of us believe in a God who demands that we take care of you if you need it.

I've got bullets, you've got rhetoric.

Which one of us, do you think, will take down a goose, deer, duck, possum or moose to eat? Try standing on your principles while some hungry mob is stealing your food or raping your mother.

Hey HLF,

You stock up on food, I'll stock up on ammunition.

Guess who's going to eat.

Thanks for the offers but I'll stay in the cities where people are more civilized than the rurals.

when civilization falls all that the people in the cities will have to eat is - Soylent Green

but only the rich republicans will be able to afford it

I'm stocking up on twinkies so when I get the munchies I'm set. Twinkies are like honey, they never go bad.

Uh huh, we ALL remember the riots after the Rodney King verdict in Little Rock, Birmingham, Tallahassee, and Podunk. And let us not forget the sports riots in the rural areas after a big NBA win / loss / tie.

Tiger had it right, you're either a fake or a fool.

what Blue said
in the cities the democrats will become Solyent Green
& the republicans will consume Soylent Green

Republicans may have guns but they're soft, pudgy and weak. The more money they have the worse that gets.

Ask Stalin or Castro or any number of revolutionaries who had the power to overcome the status quo ruling class.

thank you for admitting that we are your ruling class

Wealth always rules. Doesn't matter who it is. Certainly isn't you!

Politically your kind doesn't rule shit. Anymore.

To paraphrase Wyatt earp [Kurt Russell] in Tombstone, "A man don't need to be fit when he's heeled*."

Oh, and...

At 64, with two knee replacements I am still fit enough to teach TKD and Krav Maga...but what do I know? I'm just a girl.

Speak for yourself Steve. Liberals will be my "prime" targets, as they are the main cause of most of our problems.

IMO, the true danger from a world-wide financial meltdown is not from our own people, (who for the most part lack the sense, courage, and will to do anything about anything) but from the hoards of parsites who will force their way into this country, knowing it to be the hand-out capital of the world. Our military will be needed at our so-called borders to use whatever force is needed to stop those hoards, not facing American citizens with fixed bayonets. The only exception would be of course, the "free govt. cheese crowd", who look to steal and loot at any opportunity. But that's why M-60's were invented!
