OK, College Sports FANATICS, explain this one

.
We just talked about this, and here is the proof of the crazed, and money grabbing aspect of, College Sports.
.
The number of bowls has increased to 34 this season and, not surprisingly, that means there are some less-than-savory bowls.

Hey, we have to watch every game; it's our job. But there is no reason for the typical fan to waste his time watching some of these matchups, especially around the holidays.
.
And people think the MLB and the NFL went nuts when they started having "Wild Card" games.

I'm sorry, but you just can't convince me that there are 68 teams, worthy of elevation to a bowl game. But I'm an old guy. I remember when there were just a handful, Orange, Gator, Sugar, Rose.

At 2 to 3 hours coverage per game, it comes to 68 to 102 hours of televised college football. You should certainly be able to get our fill.

But I guess it's only fair to have that much college football. 68 to 102 hours, that's about what the Super Bowl Pre-Game has gone to, right?

Steverino,

There was enough firepower at that one gunshow to take over AZ. Maybe New Mex as well. had to have been 50,000 guns there. Bout 35 - 40,000 of them serious weapons, capable of doing a job.

Kinda OT, but since Poots introduced the topic..
I recently got myself a nice, inexpensive (as I have not much $$)12 ga. pump action with which to shoot intruders (while hoping I nver have to). This forum being full of people waaaay more gun-happy even than I, I was hoping for some recommendations regarding good, "relatively" inexpensive ammo for practice/intruder ventilating. Also for the little .410 I have in the basement.
All contributions considered and appreciated!

Birdshot works well inside a home. At close range it'll do serious damage to an intruder but not go through walls as will buckshot and slugs. Those are for outside.

Even a .410 will do some owies.

I agree.
Inside, my Mossburg 500 cruiser (soon to be much modified - more on that later)is loaded with #6 or #7 shot (forgot exactly whats in there at the moment). I have a 3,050sq ft house with a mezzanine right out from the master b-room overlooking the front door and living room. It's about 32 feet in a straight line to the front door and at that distance I get about a 2 ft pattern with about 4 pellets every sq inch. Just about right to peel somebodys face back to their ears. Anything much closer just starts acting like a solid slug but still will break up in a wall.

I do of course back my ass up with my glock (14 x .45) for just in case. Outside cruisin around.... It's 00 Magnums in there.

I'm replacing the pistol grip with a short pull butt stock, adding a made-for-Mossburg Picatinny rail assembly and an dropping on a cheapo (hey its a shotgun) open top red-dot site. I'll add one of those little 6 round bandleros to the stock as well.

Next, the AR gets the works.

Anybody know where I can get bulk .223/5.56 (1,000 round lots) for under $0.40 a round? (and not the steel case lacquered Wolf stuff. like PMC, UltraMax, Winchester or Remington.

OR can anybody recommend a good inexpensive 50-55 grain ammo that works outstandingly in AR15 - A4 style black guns?

00-buck...
birdshot...
owies. Got it.

Appreciated, but I was actually looking for brand-specific ideas, if indeed there are significant quality/price differences between the various brands. Also where to go for the best deals.
Cuz I'm cheap.
No, frugal.
Canny.
Careful.

Yes, college sports are for assholes.

CT... shotgun shells are cheap as Missys unnerwear. Go anywhere and buy any known brand.

Try ammoman.com or Cabelas.

Go to Bass Pro or even Walmart ot K Mart should do ya.

Hey.

Hawai'i is matched against Notre Dame.

I'd pay to watch that. Well, actually, I'd pay someone watch it for me so I didn't have to.

He-he.

Someone please explain this to me:

The University of Texas lost one game this year in the Big 12, to Texas Tech (33-39). The 'Horns beat Oklahoma (45-35) and Missouri (56-31, but OU and Mizzou played for the Big 12 champeenship last Saturday. Oklahoma and Florida get to play for the BCS champeeeeeenship in L'orange Bowl come January.

College football is about money.

David,

thanks. That's a good read.

No bigger than 2.75", 1 and 1/8 ouce loads of #4 birdshot in your 12 gauge. It will skin the bad guy alive, but won't tend to pass through walls with as much ease as buckshot. The lighter load will still do masive damage, but the kick will be greatly reduced, and thus, make the shotty way more controllable in tight quarters when follow-up shots are the key.

For the .410, go with 5 or 6 shot, 3" magnum. It is going to be way more controllable thant he 12 gauge, but you should focus on using smaller shot because the long, thin shot column of the .410 does not perform well with anyhting much over 6 shot. Even 5 is pushing it.

At close range, it will still do massive damage, and likely won't penetrate walls.
